G 43 anyone?

My father's G43 will never be for sale. I shoot it once a year just to keep old memories alive.

There is a guy in London Ontario, C96 on gunnutz, who collects them.

He may know were some can be found.

I see a LOT of them sitting with $4000 price tags on them. The ones I see actually sell are priced in the $1800-2500 range for decent examples.

I was rather fortunate to purchase one, last Summer while visiting Southern Ontario. It was a private transaction through a friend of a friend. My K43 is in excellend condition, and included a ZF4 Scope with the Mount, Sling, 200 Rds of 8mm Mauser, a set of RCBS FL Dies, and a lot of spare parts. All this for $3K. All I need is a couple of extra Mags.

Its a moot point though if seller's won't lower their prices. I believe there were no takers for Wolverine's during the surplus sale so it went to the Calgary show. Its the same with Johnson Automatic Rifles - I've seen the same one at several gun shows not sell, year after year, because of the asking price. I believe it finally sold when the seller accepted a lower offer.

Check the EE - sometimes Vopo ones come up there (such may have sold recently - pm the seller and find out what it sold for).

do any one really pay these big prices ? or are they only a marketing ploy ?

Good condition G/K43's are worth at least $2500 or more on either side of the border. Rare codes or variations can add value. For example, an 1943 G43 with the cut out on the reciever can easily demand $4500+. All matching snipers or even non-matching snipers (with original mounts/scopes) can go for $5000+

People do pay these prices.

Many of the $4000-5000 priced G/K43's in the country right now are regular mill rifles and should probably be priced lower. They seem to demand a premium in Canada and most are Vopo/DDR rifles.

Johnson Automatics are worth more in the US but due to "US Property Markings" cannot be re-imported. They are a rare rifle and were only issued to Marines in the Pacific.

Both these rifles are collector variations and if priced right, collectors will pay these prices.

The price range that I have seen them sell for over the years is from $200 (Two Hundred Dollars) right up to $20,000 to $25,000 (Twenty Thousand Dollars and Twenty Five Thousand Dollars) for the Experimental G/K43's.

Are ally nice Vopo that wasn't monkeyed with sold for $2250 a couple weeks ago - or at least that was the seller's last advertised price. The buyer likely wrangled it slightly lower.

I believe a lot of guys think a repro mount and scope instantly adds $2000 to the value

You don't see too many Johnsons or G/K43's these days.
