G-43

It looks like the stock is duffle cut, as you can see the line
where it was cut and repaired on the stock (between the recoil lug and the front barrel band).

Nice gun and proof that it is a vet bring back.

Stock

I was wondering about that? There is a nice in-theatre repair on the left side, a small square cut out and then replaced with a matching plug and the stock cut. I had never seen one cut like that but it appeared to be vintage in origin. I started looking at the collectors site and have ordered up the G43 bible. It has all the spare parts in the butt trap as well. Please elaborate.

The cutout and replaced plug on the left side could be where a sling swivel was added post war by a hunter?

The cut on the stock was done so the soldier bringing it back home could hide it in his duffle bag, otherwise if he did not cut it, the stock would stick out, and he would lose the rifle if caught.

You might have up to 3 spare parts in the butt plate area.
An extractor, a firing pin and a firing pin extension. Possibly a manual too.

Can you post more close up photos? Would be interesting to see.

I hope the dog hasn't been duffle cut... ;)

As far as I know, the term duffle cut refers to a common practice when soldiers brought back captured weapons from WW2. To be able to bring it back it, the item had to fit into their duffle bag. The stocks didn't fit, so they were cut into two pieces to allow them to fit. Some are cut under the barrel bands, some in the middle of the buttstock or anywhere. Doesn't really detract from the value that much, as it proves it's provenance as a genuine vet bringback.

If you haven't already, I would register on this site and read (You have to register to view it). Great forum for G43's:

Thanks gents. I did register on the site shortly after reading this thread. Had a good look about for a rod and sling. It has the firing pin, an extractor and the third peice that looks like a thick firing pin wrapped in wax paper. Then there's the odd key... white metal and looks like a sight adjustment tool with two prongs on the end, but not for this rifle to be sure.

The plug mathces the stock perfectly and is well covered with that gloss finish? Strangely, the trigger is very crisp too.

The dog is a GSD and from Germany too. That's only half her nose, she has a large chomper. Yes, she's been duffle cut too, about three inches off her tail but that's another story. Luckily, she had a freakishly long tail to start with so it now appears more or less normal.
