G17 feed issue

Was at the range today and put the first 250 rounds down the pipe of my new G17. The first 200 were American Eagle 115gr with which I experienced 0 fail to fire, fail to eject, or fail to feed.

I tried a box of Lawman 147gr for the last 50 and had almost every mag fail to feed the 9th or 10th round. A quick re-rack of the slide cured the problem but it is still concerning to me.

It seemed like the bullet nose was getting stuck on the lip of the feed ramp. Would the fact that the Lawman is a wad cutter instead of a round nose be causing the issue?

Anyone had this problem before with wad cutter style rounds or is there another issue I should look into?

^LOL!

X2

I've never used wad-cutters though - that could be the problem. What happens when you use FMJ ball ammo? If it still jams, its your grip - too light or limp-wristed.

Try tightening up the nut on the end of the handle.

Hilarious:rolleyes:.

No problems with ball ammo at all. A friend I brought with me to introduce to handgun shooting also experienced the same issue with the wad cutter type ammo, and always on the 9th or 10th round in the mag so I don't see how limp wristing could have been an issue.

All my mags are brand new as well so I do not think the problem is with the springs or followers.

How much does 8 rounds of 9mm ammo weight...

Seriously, lock your wrists and elbows with the same ammo and get back to us.

I'm just waiting for the resident "Glock Perfection" fanboy squad to discover this thread and chastise you for spreading false rumors and trying to besmirch Gaston Glock's good name. After all, Glock is the gun of choice for Special Forces Veterans if you believe some people on this board.

On a serious note, I have no experience with Lawman ammo, so I've got to ask: when you say wadcutter, do you mean full wadcutter, semi-wadcutter, or a truncated nose bullet?

Okay, seems like I've answered my own question. I looked up Speer Lawman, and as I suspected, it's a truncated nose bullet, not a true wadcutter or even a semi-wad. You should have no problem feeding truncated nose ammo through any quality semi-auto.

x2, it makes sense, empty mag = lighter gun = relatively more recoil. And from what I have watched, glocks aren't the market leader in the limp wrist department.

No, no, get an HK P30L because the super Aryan-engineered Heckler Koch grip panel is interchangeable and will thus alleviate feeding issues. Also, the exterior milling of the slide is so precise, that it will feed ammunition with a friction coefficient that is close to null.

Well, after doing some research on glocktalk it would seem that the speer lawman ammo has given more than a few guys some issues with proper feeding and ejecting.

....i knew it couldn't be the Glock. they are after all perfection.
