G17 Gen4 Extended Slide Release: What are my options?

Howdy Glock Lovers:

For those of you who don't know me, I'm "hungry" from the Main Battle Rifle forum who uses a G17 Gen4 in my CQB Clinics and range duties. Here's my introduction, heh heh:

Here's my question: With the Gen4 G17, what extended slide releases have we to choose from?

Brands and prices (relative) would be helpful here.

Do I gotta worry about them 2 pin Glocks?

How about a Vickers? It's just the cool factor I want. Ha ha ha ha ha

ONLY Glock Ext. OEM slide catch for me.

its low profile, easy to hit "when you want too" and top notch quality
 
I tried the factory extended one and it did not work for me because I found it stuck out too much. The Vickers is what I went with and it works a lot better for me. I personally recommend that one but try both if you can as there are many fans (such as Dsiwy and enefgee) of the factory extended one as well.

So the Vickers one will fit the Gen4? I kinda like that look! Extra Kool factor!

Factory extended. Really made a difference for me and my stubby thumbs. I can lock the slide and drop it without altering my normal grip, whereas before, my thumb would merely graze the standard release.I think it set me back about $16 from my LGS.
 
Well, here's the update: I ordered the Vickers unit and after watching Lenny Madill on YouTube make things (installation) look easy, I installed my Vickers Extended Slide Lock Lever. :D

That was dead easy! I'm a rock star! :rockon:

I am liking this unit. Now to go and test this unit in my Safariland 6377/6378 paddle/belt loop holster for CQB matches....

This is a common misconception. A gross motor skill is something like walking, going up stairs, jumping, etc. Grabbing a slide and hitting a slide release are both fine motor skills.


Don't get me wrong, I generally rack the slide as well but you have to wonder... if a fine motor skill like hitting a small slide release is so hard to do under stress, how does one get the mag out of the gun by hitting a small mag release?
 
I was shooting CQB this spring with cold hands or with mechanics gloves, and found the mag release tricky because I could nt feel it under my cold thumb.

I put a dab of epoxy on it.

Mixed the epoxy (5 minute stuff from the Dollar store) and let it start to set so it was not runny. Put a dab on the release and then put the gun down on a roll of tape, release side down. The dab formed a fat little icicle and hardened. Being extended and pointy, it was much easier to feel and press.
