G17 or Maybe G35..Need Advice

I don,t do a lot of pistol shooting anymore.
99% BR Rifle.
I'm thinking of getting a G17 for those odd days I want to shoot some pins or targets,just for fun.
What is the difference between Gen.3 or Gen 4 G17.
Finish,etc.
One generation you like better than the other?
I used to own a G35 and that was an accurate and enjoyable pistol to shoot.
I have also owned the G34,but preferred the 35.
I figure with a G17 the ammo is cheap and readily available.
People selling used G17's seem to be asking a price getting glose to a new Gen 4 G17.
Decisions,decisions.
 
I own a GEN 3 G17 and it's a fantastic pistol. Over 1000 rounds with ZERO malfunctions of any kind.
The only differences between the 4th GEN compared to the 3rd GEN is that the fourth has removable back-straps, a double recoil spring assembly for reduced recoil, and an enlarged/ambidextrous mag release...
If your right handed, and the standard G17 grip is comfortable I don't think there's any reason to get a Gen. 4, I've heard the recoil is about the same on either pistol, I've also heard of people experiencing problems with the GEN 4.
9mm ammo is definitely an economical round to shoot as well.
 
I have a 3rd Gen Glock 17 and I can't recommend it more. I've had about a dozen other pistols and this is the winner. I'd say get a Gen 3.5 or 3.5 RTF OR if you want a smaller grip try the 4th Gen. Price wise you can find a used 17 for $500, new 3rd/4th gen around $700 tax in and shipped. Anyway you can't go wrong with a Glock 17.
 
G17 is the way to go. I would go with a gen 3 gun if it fits your hand. Not sure how much of "poor reliability" reviews are just internet talk on the gen 4 guns. I own a gen 3.5 and I love it! 9mm is really the way to go for some cheap fun! Have you considered a .22 like the Ruger 22/45 or the Browning Camper series? They are a lot of fun as well and are even cheaper! Speaking from experience, my paper targets never could tell me the difference between a .22, 9mm or a 45! All that aside the bigger bang is enjoyable though! Hope this helps

Holy Moly I must agree those guys, this G17 is a must. as a Glock hater for so many year, I have two G17 now and this say something. is it perfect? Hell no, is it good, well it is excellent.:D

I got a GenIII Glock 17. Ultra reliable. But i hate the trigger pull, its pretty terrible, feels like its "binding" sort of when your trying to pull off a precise shot, especially one handed. Other than that it shoots great is super easy to maintain and is nice and light. I bought mine used for a touch under $500 and im never getting rid of it. Its my workhorse.
 
trigger pull gets better the more you shoot it, and if its a new gun and you know what your doing stone the mating surfaces a bit. If you don't, leave it alone, just shoot the piss out of it, and after a couple of thousand rounds they smooth out nicely

get a gen 3 or 3.5 if you find one for a good price, or a 4 otherwise. All are glocks
