So I am thinking of picking up a G17 as there are a ton on the EE right now, which also raises the question as to why there are so many on the EE. Are you guys bored with them or is there something else that had you looking. I like to try different pistols and sell one after trying it out too but there seems to be a lot out right now.

Any preference to the G3over the G4 other then the grip ?

Can't go wrong with a Glock, its been tested, proven and in service for decades. My very first auto was a G17 Gen 2 and its still going strong, picked it up in 1986 :)

There was also a really good deal on G17's from a sponsor a month or so ago when they got an overstock and I'm guessing they're looking to get their money back plus bit extra for the trouble.

The G17 is the most popular Glock model. Gen 4 gives you the interchangeable backstraps. New Gen 4's have 2 standard and 2 beavertail backstraps.

Here's my take on the g17.

I just spent over a month exclusively firing a 1911 after spending well over a year with the G17. I dry fired the 1911 every day for over a month.

Two days ago I abandoned the 1911 and started dry firing my G17 again and I realized I was a stupid ####ing idiot for straying away from it.

1)The trigger pull on the Glock works better for me. I tend to snatch the 1911 trigger.

2) Reloads are night and day faster with the Glock. Weaselly little 1911 mags and a small hole to put them in is a pain in the ass.

3) The larger grip and fatter trigger guard work better with my grip than the 1911.

4) Mag release on the Glock is better positioned and smoother to operate.

People tend to stray from the Glock for all kinds of irrational reasons like they don't like the trigger or they don't like plastic or they just plain get bored with them.

It's not until you get away from them for a bit that you come to respect them for what they offer.

I do miss the forward slide serrations on the 1911 though...

P.S. If you can find a pre 2010 Gen 3 buy it! Legendary reliability and second to none parts/holster availability.

Can't go wrong with a Glock 17, lots of after market parts, popular etc... It's a mostly no frills Plain Jane pistol that works. Gen 4 will give you more options on grip size, which can make a big difference with Glocks.

I love my metal pistols but my glock17 has a special place in my heart. they are always on the ee because there are so damn many of them in circulation.

check out CanadaAmmo.com Glock 17 and 750 rds of 9mm for $889. Great shooter. Not as ###y as a 1911 or 92fs but its simplicity is beautiful in itself

Ah the 3 pistols I own. Probably 3 of the most recognizable designs. I'd use my glock if my life depended on it, I play around with the 92 as it has 2 trigger pulls to dry fire and love the feel of steel, and my 1911 is a .22 for cheap plinking.

Of all my pistols the Glock is the one I never worry about working EVERY time.. the cleaning / field stripping is a bonus as well as the tough finish..

A Glock 17 is a must, just ordered one, Gen 3 with the Crimson trace laser for a very good deal ( Wanstalls)... JP.
