So, I was wondering, how much does a G19 with a barsto barrel go for?

Are the grips much shorter than the G17?

If I got big hands, will the G19 fit well anyways?

If you got one(with barsto barrel or not) PLS post pictures! And if you got a G17 as well, please post a picture of them side by side.

Glock Model 19

The Glock 19 is bar none the coolest Glock. Whether in prohib mode with the original barrel or the 'restricted' model with the stick-out barrel, it's cool. Personally, I'd spend the extra money and get the Bar-Sto barrel on the 'restricted' model. ;)

I was going to get a Glock 19 as my first handgun. With the BarSto and the night sights it was going to be about $1,119 plus extra magazines. I'd want to get a few 10 rounders and atleast one of the scherer 33 rounders for the hell of it. That is now about 1,300 + tax because I live in Ontario I am up at about 1500. So, I decided that I am gonna either get a USP or a P226 from Wolverine. Less tax, which is always a good thing for me. I did look into those lonewolf barrels that are black and are slightly cheaper, which does make the black glock look more appealing.

Saying all this, glocks are great guns, and I mite still end up getting a 17 as my first handgun and first 9MM.

Some pictures that I saved when G22 posted his...

The G19 is widely regarded as one of the most size efficient fighting sized and combat tested 9mm out there by many authorities. In its original configuration.

I find the extended barrel restricted ones we are allowed here in Canada to be ugly as sin, and as much as people praise Barsto barrels, I'd never trust a G19 without OEM parts as far as reliablity goes. Thats just my take. Barsto would be great for range use but trusting a life to it.....I don't think I'd go that far.

They have been bringing in Bar-sto G19's at one of the shops here in Vancouver and I have handled them there a few times. I've also fired 10 rounds a couple of times through a couple of different G19s owned by other members of my range, including a Gen 1 G19 prohib. I own the G17 and am happy with it. I find myself moving more toward SA/DA pistols these days, but for what it is (a "bomb-proof" DAO that requires little maintenance, is easy to strip and clean, barrel cleans out very easily, will virtually never fail to go "bang", is as accurace as it needs to be, and will give you very few, if any, problems over its life) the G17 is a sure bet. The G19 is the same gun. It's just a half inch shorter off the front and a half inch shorter off the bottom. The half inch off the front is easy to engineer. The slide, the barrel and the frame are all just that much shorter. A G19 in the U.S. is 102mm (4 inch). A G17 is 114mm (4.49 inch). In Cananda, for legal reasons, we have to tack a extra 4mm onto our 4 inch guns so that they are longer than 105mm - hence the 106mm Bar-sto barrels.

Taking a half inch off the bottom of the grip is a bit more tricky. The way they did it (on Gen 3 models anyway) was to "condense" the grip pattern down a bit, get rid of that open "half moon" shaped thing at the front of the bottom of the grip on full size Glock models (you should be able to see what I'm talking about in many pictures of Glocks), and then make the bottom of the magazine sit more flush with the bottom of the grip than on a full-size.

I'm a large person (6'3", 215lbs.) with average size hands for a person of my size. When I hold a G17, the bottom of my palm is right at the top of the "half moon", i.e. it is not hanging over at all, but there is no more grip if I were to move my hand down. When I hold the G19, the gun - magazine and everything - ends at that same place... the top of the "half moon" on a G17. When you look at a G19 you will see that the front of the magazine sits flush with the front of the grip, or at least a lot closer than with a full size Glock. In my case, on a G19, the very bottom of my hand is just sitting comfortably right on the front of the inserted magazine, but there is no gun at all beyond that (unlike a G17 where there is that open "half moon" area and the bottom of the magazine under that - none of which your hand sits on anyway).

Hope that helps a bit, if you haven't handled both guns. I find the G19 to comfortable to hold and you don't lose anything over the G17. Most of what is taken off the bottom is surplusage in my view (other than that it is a little more unforgiving to get the magazines in on a fast, IPSC-style reload). Some people just like the feel of a 4 inch gun more. A 4 inch gun can give you the perception of less barrel flip, but this is probably mostly just perception. (9mm guns are easy to control anyway if you hold them right.

I'd say go for either. The thing with G17's is, if your range is anything likle mine, you will never go there when there aren't at least a couple of other people shooting a G17 - many of which are people that have just gotten into shooting and bought one as their first gun., which is cool. We've all been there. G19s used to be a bit more "cool" and "oooh" because they were less common. I must say that, now, in the Questar age this is increasingly not the case. I've been seeing lots of G19/23 and G26/27 lately. They're everywhere.

Is the G19 worth the extra $400? No, absolutely not. As I say, it is not a different gun. It's just a half inch off the front and the bottom. That's it. But, having said that, I am going to buy one myself... just becasue it is still pretty damn cool, and just for those intagible reasons why people buy multiple guns of similar styles. But again, having said that, I'll be buying a USP before I buy a second Glock.

I got a G19 in a trade a couple of months ago and I have yet to fire it. (So far, it feels good in my hands when I hold it in front of the mirror and say "You talkin' to me?")

It is restricted, with an extended barrel that sticks out a few mm. The portion of the barrel which sticks out is threaded. The barrel has a black finish.

Its a 2nd generation model (from what I can tell). I was trying to figure out what kind of barrel it had in it. Its actually marked "Glock" with the Glock logo.

If it were a Bar-Sto barrel, would it be marked "Bar-sto" ?

Does anyone know how to identify the origin or my barrel?

I know, I know, I need to post PICs...

Now that doesn't look too bad as the stick out barrel ones go. ;)

Gonna have to move the Glock 19 [with Bar-Sto] up to the top of my "pistol wanna buy list"....

I have owned a G17, and currently own one of the Questar Bar-Sto 19's, as well as a G34.
Handsdown, my favourite is the 19... I have average sized hands and this one fits and feels the best.
Accuaracy is best of the three( ?tighter tolerances on the Bar-Sto) and recoil with shot to shot control is excellent.
Most people would be just as well off with the G17...
Just for the record, I'll NEVER let the 19 go!:D

I wasn't a fan of Glocks after shooting G17s, I have smallish sized hands and the back strap felt large in my grip. But after handling a G19 today I fell in love with it. It didn't feel top heavy like the other ones I've shot, it pointed very naturally, and of course being tiny it looks so cool. Definately my next 9mm.

Well I just fondled my G19 some more. My barrel is definitely NOT a Bar-sto.
I think my extended barrel is actually a factory Glock barrel. It's got the Glock logo, and a serial number which matches the slide and frame.

Has anyone heard of such pistols?

I tried to take pictures but they all look like garbage.

G22 - How did you take such nice pictures?

Nope. Not unless it has a G17 bbl? But if the S/N matches... and it is extended... strange. Pics for sure if you can. Actually, I find the quality of my pics pretty low, since the lighting is not good in the room. Here are a few more though. BTW, I sold it recently and ended up with a G17 instead.

Here is my Questar G19 with Barsto. I black oxide-d the barrel myself, this was before they offered the LoneWolf oxided barrel.
Fit and function of the Barsto barrel is good, accuracy with it is as good as the shooter.
I like the feel of the G19 over the G17, it is a little quicker, but does have more bite when fired. Takes G17 10/17 or 10/33 mags which is nice as G19 mags especially 10/15 mags are almost non-existent in Canada.
You may have some troubles with holsters because of the barrel nubbin sticking out, but in Canada, without a 12.6, this is as good as it gets.

I think it is worth the extra money. Buy a G19 now, then a G17 in the future.

Here is a picture.

It would be an interesting gun for ccw for sure. Especially if i can buy 15 rounders and leave em in a security coffer in a bank south of the border.
