I was wondering if the G21 can be converted to .40S&W? Is it just a barrel change? If so where does one get the new barrel? Has anyone done this?

No it can't. The slide is significantly wider in the G20 and 21 pistols. As far as I know no one offers a wide slide chambered in 40. Your existing slide is sized for 45ACP brass and will not work with 40 cal ammo.

You could run 10mm in a 21 with a drop in barrel, why couldn't a 40s&w barrel work? Keep the 21 slide, toss in a lonewolf barrel, use g20 mags. So long as the barrel was sized to fit in the frame and slide. Surely there is someone who's actually tried it. I'm also fairly certain I've seen 40s&w barrels to fit in the G20, why wouldn't the same work in a G21?

I'm not saying I know it'll work, I've never tried, but it seems to me that it should.

I am pretty sure it's not just the barrel that is replaced. I would never run even close to full house 10mm through any gun made for .45.

In theory, it could be done. You would need the following:

- new G20 locking block (easier to buy than a .45/10mm or .45/.40S&W barrel)
- G20 slide with .40S&W conversion barrel (from Lonewolf)
- possibly a new ejector (10mm and .45ACP ejectors are different)
- G20 mags

The Large Frame Glock was designed to take the pressures of the 10mm. The G21 is based on the G20 design, and since the G20 was designed for the 10mm, the G21 frame (which IS a G20 frame) will be able to take on the pressures of a 10mm. Keep in mind you totally and absolutely void the warranty if you proceed with this project and fire a round.

I have a Lonewolf .40S&W conversion barrel form my G20s. Works well and reliably. Accuracy is more than acceptable for practice shooting.

Why would you ever want to do this. .45 acp is the best round there is. I am just not a fan of the .40 cal. 9mm for cheap shooting, but .45 for comp and putting holes in bad guys. if its about ammo cost .40 isn't gonna be that much cheaper.

Maybe but the G21 is an exception. It would handle the 10mm high pressure. .45 Super works great with the G21.

To be picky, .45 super is neither as powerful or as high pressure as 10mm(30k psi vs 37.5). The G21 is quite a bit lighter than the G20 (G20=785g G21= 745g). I bet most if not all weight is taken off the slide. Which is where my comment about shooting 10mm in .45 guns came from. The frame is indeed identical.

Not picky. Thanks.
