G21SF vs FNP45

What was your load data with your cast bullets??? Were they 200SWC???

200gn SWC: 4.4gn of Bullseye
200gn truncated: 5.2gn of Bullseye

Contrary to what you have been told and you mentionned in your FNP 45 review, LSWC are EXCELLENT for 45acp and I have always had the best accuracy with them (over plated). They main advantage in shooting LSWC in 45 is that unlike the smaller calibers (higher velocity) I have found it causes less lead fouling. The only reason I do not used cast bullets more is they gum up the dies and they are not allowed for IPSC around here :)

Why production? Why not standard? If you shot it in standard you could at least score major. Is there such thing as shooting production major?

Because there is, as you said no major in production so you can load your 45 so soft it barely clears the barel... that is the theory. Also, the regular model has no safety so I would take my first shot in double action anyway.

That being said, that gun is +P rated and has a pretty strong recoil spring and there are no aftermarket springs available, so that 5.2 gn of bullseye is a near max load, just for proper cycling. Maybe my gun is not broken in yet, I don't know, but my 1911 and Glock21SF both used softer loads when new. So yeah I could've shot standard major, but it was just a temp rig, as I didn't know how long I would be working on my racegun (new compensator= find new loads + find new springs+ monitor with chrony)

Hmmm, yeah. That go against what I've been told but I'm excited to try them out. I'm not overly impressed with the 230g with TG. I've got about 1,000 of them but the only pistol powder I've got is Titegoup, is that a good one for 45??? I've never loaded for 45 so I have no load data for it.

Well what you say might be true if using lame cast bullets?
I have only used Wolf cast bullets, pretty hard alloy

As for Titegroup, I've never used it but lots of guys at my club do for 45 and Hodgdon has loads for all common bullet weights.

I like the idea of shooting light loads in a .45 for production. There would no recoil, especially in my G21SF. That being said though, the cost of .45 for IPSC is not an idea I like. If it was cheaper to shoot I might just try it with my G21SF.

Anyone have a FNP tactical? Any opinions?

I have the Competition model. I understand that they are the same base gun with the difference being the taller sights on the tactical and the threaded barrel. One of the key features for me is the slide that is milled for a RDS. I have a Trijicon RMR on order. I've also ordered the tactical iron sights and will get the threaded barrel as soon as they are available. Those changes will give me a Tactical but in all black.

I bought the gun from Arms East and from start to finish, the deal took less than two days and that means I had the gun in my hands!! This was the smoothest and fastest gun transaction for me since I started the obsession. Steve at AE was super responsive and a pleasure to deal with.

I am super impressed with the gun. Although I haven't used it a great deal, I think it will become my "go to" for IPSC. It is faster and more comfortable to shoot than my custom 1911. That big Poly frame and the geometry really suck up recoil and flip and it gets back on target very quickly after the first and subsequent shots. Mechanically the gun has been perfect so far.

I also have a Bladetech holster on order so the gun will be with me at competitions in Texas where I will spend the winter.
