G34 for IDPA/IPSC

Very true.

Shoot the 17, 34 will make the job easier but why spoil yourself now with a competition gun when you're still learning?

It's like you just turn 16 and go buy a Honda NSX.

i'm far from a pro at these things, but i find it odd that you'd take a G34 for IDPA. isn't the point of IDPA to have & use a gun that would be most logical for CCW scenarios and quick defense scenarios? wouldn't the thinking be compact = better, as opposed to the G34/G35's longer barrel / slide? i can see the G35 being great for IPSC since you'd be scored as major, but the 34? hmm....

I shot IDPA with a G34 for 2 years, I would not hesitate to carry a G34 if I had the opportunity, no different then a 1911, which I prefer, as far as I am concerned.

I had no issues with shooting one in IPSC 19 years ago when I was up against Open guns, what makes you think I have any concerns about shooting one against another production gun? :p
 
While I agree with Pat that judging a gun based on the pro shooter that is using it is a silly idea;

I completely disagree that for the amateur shooter (us), any gun can be as competitive as the next.

There are inherent advantages in some guns design that those of us with limited practice time can take advantage of, as can our competition.

For example, I can do 1000 practice reloads with a glock's block mags before I get a smooth reload, but it only takes me 500 with CZ / Tanfoglio / GP6 tapered mags get there, and it takes me even less with a Stock II that has a tapered mag opening.

Since I, like the majority of you - have limited resources in time, I can make up for it by choosing the best equipment to be as competitive as possible.

I don't need to think about your issues. If you like Glock so much, then do show up with it at the matches! As simple as that. :cool:

I think you almost made Pats' point for him...

On the flip side (and I think this is the point Pat's trying to make) if you already own an acceptable pistol (like the G17) don't rush out and buy another until you know what you want...

You may decide to switch Divisions...you may even decide IPSC is not your cup of tea.
 
I do not agree that you need to be as "competitive as possible" to enjoy ipsc. To me the game is a hoot in and of itself. The timer goes off you shoot everything as fast as you can, it is fun and exciting. I believe that the game can be enjoyed immensely by people of different skill levels using equipment at different price points. It is fortunate that I think this way as I only get a chance to win when Maurice does not show up.:)

i gotta sign up for and try some IPSC so that i can compare it to IDPA and other stuff i do at the range...
