I just discovered that Magpul makes G36 PMAGS. There are lots of SL8's and G36 clones in Canada, so what doesn't a dealer bring them in restricted to 5/30? I would buy 8 in a heartbeat.

I read this on the magpul site, not sure if this would be the problem i expect, but:

Compatible with all 5.56x45mm Heckler & Koch G36 variants, excluding the semi-auto U.S. marketed SL8.

There are other options available as far as sl-8 mags are concerned (speer {sp*} for one I think that you can still find a few on the equip exchange), be cautious of what comes out of the states as they have a single stack to fit the grey SL-8's down there where we have the double stack .

I have asked multiple dealers about sl8 and g36 mags and got NADA. In fact, one of the guys at wolverine (not guy) offered me mr223 mags in lieu of g36 mags.

SL8s don't have the same magazine well as G36s so no, there isn't much of a market for those magazines here.

Maybe you should own a G36 or SL8 before you make up information?
G36 magazines work in Canadian SL8's with a very little modification to either the receiver or the magazine.
G36 pmags also work in Canadian (-4/-5) SL8's.

I'm not sure about this part, but it's my understanding that the G36 PMAG is NOT compatible with the US (-6) SL8. They need to modify their receivers, replace magwells, and replace SL8 bolts with G36 bolts.

That is the million dollar question. Not sure why these have not made it here yet. They will fit the Canadian SL8.

Maybe because the $14 Magpul mag would be $48.99 up here. Import fees, pinning fees, duty, tariffs, trade taxes, land transfer tax, etc.

Who would buy it.

The pinned mag is a way of gouging us. And we are getting tired of it. What store wants to be known as rip-off artists.

Factory G36 mags are hard to come by and not cheap either...

Remember that Canada Ammo sells some reproduction Swiss Arms mags for $45ea, and God knows they are not that expensive to make. They aren't even magpul. They are just cheaper than the $80 factory offerings, so we gobble them up.

Why wouldn't you change to an AR magwell so you don't go bankrupt buying mags.?

I've been told by a few SL8 owners that the AR magwells aren't completely reliable (with the caveat that YMMV) - but there's certainly the authentic/collector's aspect, too. Still, being limited to 5 rounds with the rest of us now up to 16, I can't help but feel that SL8 owners are missing out...
