I've never had the opportunity to inspect a G43 first hand, so for those of you who have, do you think it is possible to fit one with a trench mag without humping the metal parts?

Just a thought ... would be nice to have a non-restricted with 25 round magazine :p

Unless those trench mags were designed for a pistol, you'd still be capped at 5. If they were designed for a pistol...you'd be limited to 10.

Trench mag is designed for a bolt action, hence no magazine limits. No matter what you can cram it into.

As an aside, not sure a trench mag would work in a g43 without massive mods. In a K98k the guide lips are part of the receiver, so a trench mag will essentially be a box mag like the trigger guard of a k98k just longer. So right there, even if you could force it in the hole, which i doubt, it wouldn't even retain the cartridges.

Would be a great idea then assuming you didn't have to modify anything. How common are G43's here anyways? Or trench mags for that matter?

Would certainly take quite a bit of splainin' to convince the authorities it was legal however lol.

Reprop trench mags are available but expensive.

G/K43 are rare and expensive. $2500 for a vopo, 3000 plus for original matching.

The amount of work required makes it unfeasible, also be ruining valuable parts.

Should call Norinco and ask them to make a G43 knock off with K98 mag well. Hehe

To attach the trench mag to the Gew 98, you removed the Magazine Floor Plate, Spring and Follower.

The Trench Mag is NOT a Magazine; it is a Magazine Extension. It EXTENDS the Magazine which already is BUILT INTO the Gew 98.

By itself, it holds ZERO rounds because it has no cartridge retainers in the form of Feed Lips which, in the Gew 98, are built into the receiver.

The fitment for attaching the thing is very like a regular Floorplate, just hollowed out and with a long Box below it, Follwer which is partly a hold-open (Gew 98 did not have a Hold-open like the Kar98k).... and this humungous long zigzag spring which shoves ALL TWENTY-FIVE rounds up into feed position.

You COULD mod one to fit onto a Kar. 43, but you would wreck BOTH in the process.

Please believe me on this: I OWN an original Trench Magazene and I have owned a Kar-43 in th past.

Not worth it.

Probably easier to mod an FG-42 mag...... if you can even find one. ZB-26 mag MIGHT be a possibility.

But in this Free Country of ours, NONE of these are legal.

And for THIS kind of "freedom" we fought 2-1/2 World Wars and the Cold War? Gimme a BREAK!

the answer is yes , they were made with mg 15 mags .the mags were modified. there were also factory made 20 round mags . very rare .possibly only experimental.

hijack and an aside...

"If" you could slap one in directly, you'd be good to go with 20 rds ready.

As suggested by others (and supported by yours truly), you would have to modify the magazine...here's the legal rub. You can't modify the magazine for a semi unless you pin it to 5... In the end, (also already suggested) you'd end up with 2 fine, historic pieces modified (fudd me would consider "ruined" a suitable adjective), and have to pin to it 5.

No real benefits and certainly some serious losses.

Well, there is this fantasy Trench Magazine...

But, since it's an MG13 mag, it's pinned to five rounds....

Better to stick with original 5/10 round mags for actual function.

... and yes... that is my G43 in the shower... WHAT?!?! Don't judge me!!!!!! ;)

Trench Magazine for Mauser 98 will not work with any other rifle then Mauser 98 Bolt action family of rifles. The magazines we sell come pinned to 5 rounds. When the magazine is attached to the rifle it forms with the rifle into a bigger magazine thus giving you the ability to load 10 rounds into your K98

Germans used bigger magazines in G 43 but they were adopted from MG 13 and MG30 magazines. MG 13 and MG 30 magazines are next to impossible to import since they are classified as full auto parts and even if Canada Customs would let them in they would have to be pinned to 5 rounds

Looks like I'm going to have to go the hard way.

I shall take a G43 receiver, build a bolt action rifle around that and call it C43. Then I will build a magazine for it, stamped it with C43 and use it with my G43.

Feasible? No? So frustrating.
