Hey all. Second sub-zero trip to the range this morning with my new G44. I bought it during the summer but didn't actually get it transferred until fall so only had a single sunny day range trip with it before the lockdowns & stuff. We had a great day, sent about 200 rounds down it and had 2 or 3 stovepipes. My young son really liked it. Since then I've tried it two or three times in sub zero weather and it's absolutely useless. Will not cycle, at least not with the bulk Federal I was using in the summer time. I even loaded the mags at home as .22Plinkster shows on his videos and it still won't cycle. Manually cycled it goes pop every time.

Is this normal for a G44? Should I source some HV ammo and use it during the winter? Is there a lighter spring set I can fit? My Remington 597 rifle cycles okay in this weather with the same ammo. Same 1:50 stovepipe, which I accept for low power semi operation.

Hotter rounds will probably help also a good cleaning and application of a light lube may help. A firm grip on the hand gun benefits cycling possibly gloves worn in cold weather is cushioning the recoil and hampering proper cycling.

Too much oil or the wrong type of oil? Try running it with a drop of proper oil only on the areas as set forth in the manual. I have had this happen with guns using cheap oil that thickens in colder temps.

Are you using oil or grease? My GSG does not work well if i use grease even at an indoor range. I could see grease causing issues in freezing temps in a .22

In winter when I clean my pistols I oil them and wipe most of it off.
I can add a spritz of G96 gun treatment at the range if they act up.
CCI stingers are a nice hot round to fix a cold sluggish pistol.

I've used Fluid Film on all my firearms since... ever. Summer time this wasn't an issue but it's certainly a thicker oil in the winter. I added more at the firing line today and hand-cycled it 50+ times, but no change.

I'll wipe it all off tonight and try something lighter, and pick up a couple boxes of CCI's just to see. I'd hate to not use the gun all winter.

Run the pistol drier than a popcorn fart.

When the TupperWare breaks, throw it in a bon fire & then dispose of the Rubber Maid in a river or lake.
