Galil/AK/Valmet mashup getting close to completion! :-) )

No new progress, as I'm still waiting for more parts to arrive, but I think I've sourced replacement night sights, a Galil bolt carrier and the handguard hangers :) Photo with an 858, just for comparison:

Great job! Looking very nice And yes, not cheap to do but only way we can have them. I'm getting part together for a m76 in 308 together myself to go with my m78 in 308. Keep up the good work

It's been a while, but I finally got the stock bolt figured out (still needs the filler piece between the stock and the receiver, but it is now shootable), and pistol grip properly mounted. Still needs the trigger guard riveted in place, forend hangers so I can mount the Galil forend, and needs the barrel chopped and threaded. And that's it!

If you want a Valmet trigger guard, pistol grip, and a longer M76 mag catch housing let me know. My offer for Valmet .223 mags to trade for Hirt. still stands.
Did you get that M71 stock on the M78?

"that is a lot of work you put through this. Any specific advantage this has over the original ? thx "

Yes. It does not look like a Fudds rifle anymore. Bubba>Fudd

I have a trigger guard, AK brake, and Valmet handguard for it, just haven't mounted any of it yet. The only parts I'm missing are the handguard hangers and Galil bolt carrier, both of which I've sourced, just haven't got them yet. And of course, still needs the barrel chop and thread, and receiver filler block.

Had to mod the stock a bit to fit the M78, which it now does, but haven't been able to find a bolt locally, so it sits stockless for now. Gonna have to go farther afield to have one made, I think.

This is the configuration it was designed for. The 'hunter' configuation was totally awkward in comparison. AK needs a pistol grip and the trigger where it was designed to be!

Funny, my plan has been to complete a Galil clone, but I'm kind of liking the wood - I may stain the forend and wood stock a Russian red, and put on one of the bakelite pistol grips I've got lying around, as an alternate look. Just working on re-contouring the stock.
