At The Galt Sportsmens Club Handgun Section meeting tonight I was pleasantly surprised to see a member put forth a motion to have the section provide $1500 towards some new steel targets for our practices and matches! The motion carried so the Galt3gun gang has some target shopping to do!

And when will you get a chance to shoot said new targets you might wonder??? Well tentative dates have been set for our next two multi-gun matches. Saturday June 14 and Saturday October 11 are the two dates to mark on your calendar. Once the dates are set in stone and registration is open, we will notify those on our mailing list first (galt3gun.ca) and then 24hrs later post the details here.

Glad to see things moving forward.

Sadly the June 14 date conflicts with Steel Time in Eganville so I won't be able to make it to that one.

Hoping to make it out to the October match though!

The Saturday June 14th date is confirmed for our 3 gun event and emails went out this afternoon to those on our mailing list. The match sold out in record time. My apologies to those that wanted to get a spot but couldn't. For anyone wishing to be put on the waiting list who has not already done so, please email us at galt3gun@rogers.com
Thanks to all of those who signed up!

Will update everyone shortly with specifics but best to bring 100 rounds each of handgun and rifle ammo, 50 birdshot, and a dozen slugs. It's going to be a great time and we are cooking up some special things for you guys!

Yeah sorry guys, all the spots filled up 3.5 hours after mailing out the registration details to those on our mailing list back in April. If you want to be among the first to register, get on our mailing list at galt3gun.ca. I really wish we could accommodate more shooters and I hate having to turn people away but the reality is we are really limited in the number we can accommodate in a single day.

If anyone attending this Saturday's match wants to buy AR500 steel targets, we will be selling 8"X8" targets (3/8" thick) for $40 cash and carry the day of the match. We will also be giving away a special zombified target, painted by Select Shooting Supplies, as a door prize to one lucky shooter!

I could appreciate some advice regarding my kit, with this being my 1st 3-gun match ever... I'm thinking the following:

1) 4x rifle mag pouches or should I just go with 2x (they are stacked so each pair takes up only 1 spot on the belt)
2) 4x pistol mag pouches (again, should I go with just 2x or will 4 be better?)
3) 2x6 shotshell holders for birdshot
4) 2x4 shotshell holders for slugs
5) A dump pouch for extra birdshot?

I'm not sure how the stages will go and got no experience here.. Don't wanna have my entire belt full of kit if I can avoid it (would make reaching back for those last 2 pistol mags a bit of a challenge) but don't wanna run low either. Thanks for any tips you guys can offer to a 3gun virgin

You planning on carrying all your ammo for all four stages on your belt at once?

One pouch with a coupled rifle mag will do you, as, in some cases the rifle may already be loaded with the mag you have in your pocket.
You should be okay with two pistol mags on your belt, and one in the gun if it's allowed. (Depends how good you are with your pistol)
Your plan for shotgun will probably be okay.
A dump pouch is always handy, but, I find it affects my aerodynamics, unless I want to carry a pile of crap. How much does your shotgun hold? Depending on the stage, you may not actually need slugs, in which case, your two shot shell carriers will probable have you covered for reloads.

I like to keep the slugs in a tray on the gun, where I can just pop them in, without affecting my bird shot reloads on my belt. I then keep a few extra bird shot in the tray in case it all really falls apart.

I'd say one rifle pouch (or two if they're stacked on one loop like I think you mentioned), two pistol (plus a magnet if you have one, that's my next purchase), and your two shotshell trays will do you.

Save the dump pouch for the ORA. 3 Gun is all about speed, and showing off your ass.

Also, if you don't have a shotshell tray, get in touch with Dean from select shooting supplies. He sells some, and all you'd need to do is hit up a hardware store and bring some 2" wide velcro with you to attach it to your gun when you get there.... He's always up for a sale.... He may even help you out with the velcro if you tell him I sent you... ;)

Thanks for the tips/referral. I'll make my belt a bit leaner by taking off one of the rifle mag pouch pairs and at least one of the 4x shellholders. Will be rockin' PCV mags so I got some extra leeway there, too. Might still carry 2 double pistol mag pouches as they don't add much weight/bulk along the back and I like to keep my magnet on the IPSC belt, in addition to not being all that great with a handgun. Since I'm shooting tac ops, my shotty will be limited to 8 shells to start, so I figured having another 12 on the belt should get me through the stages, while I can load the slugs over the top (will be comical considering my lifetime scattergun shell count hasn't got into 3 figures yet :D) How much do those trays run for anyway?

Wait, if I read correctly, you have (2) 6 shell holders, and (2) 4 shell holders?

You won't need that. If you can hold 8 in the gun, at most I suspect you'll need another 8 on your belt. That's how I roll. If I need more I have the extra's on the saddle. We simply aren't able to squeeze in that much birdshot on any one stage at Galt, so, 8+8 will definitely cover you if you suck with the shotgun.

Correct... I figured I might go with a bit of overkill in case of fumbling. Might go 2x6 birdshot and 1x4 slugs (or skip that and just run the slugs off the saddle).. Another rookie question--- Shellholders go in front, then the rifle mags and finally the pistol mags? Just trying to sound out an optimal setup as a starting point before I figure out what works for me.
