I have a 35 mm game cam, hate the thing, always have.

Going to break down and buy a digital cam, always hated waiting till I got the film back.

I am noticing some are capable of taking pics in the dark without a flash and they are a fair bit more coin. I can see where that would be a great option for land owners snapping pics of tresspassers or Armedsask might like this option in his apt building to get some pics of the chicks below him. But does it really have an impact on game? Do flashes really spook game?

Anybody in the know?

Didn't bother these deer...

Flashes do spook deer, sometimes, as do the "noflash" models which use LED's instead of the traditional flash bulb, so not so good when tricking humans. The main difference between the high and low end cameras seems to be trigger speed, and quality of pics.

My wife bought me a Infra-red trail cam from Bass-Pro out of Missouri.Regular prices I saw here was from $400 to $550 for the same cam.She bought it on special there, and sent here for $150 everything included. She found it on the Bass-Pro web sight.

I've had hundreds of pics since September. Numerrous does and fawns and atleast 10 different bucks. For the most part, I don't think the flash spooks them. I even have a pic of a young buck bedded in front of the cam and have seen pics of 2 other bucks doing the same.

I have been building game cameras for the last 5 years now and sold well over 1000 units. All of my units are digital and uses Sony cameras.

Flash or no flash questions ALWAYS comes up. What I have noticed in so many year is that AT FIRST they deer get spooked with camera flash but after a night or two, they become comfortable with it. Deer even comes to the camera to sniff it and you get the pictures of deer nose many times.

Infrared units or no flash units are definatly better way to go but you will loose the quality/color of the pictures.
