Gamo Varmint 1250 fps- looking for ring and/or rail advice

Just picked one of these up this week. Mounted the included 4x scope and 11mm rings. The rings don’t fit the 11mm dovetail grooves properly. They appear to be too narrow causing the scope rings and scope to cant to the right.

I’ve since watched several reviews of this air rifle on Youtube and noticed that others are using these rifles with the same scope cant that I experienced…these can’t possibly be the correct size of rings.

Rough measurements of the dovetail grooves show that the grooves are approximately 13mm apart.

Has anyone experienced this same issue? Would a set of Leupold 13mm rings potentially solve the problem? My concern with the Leupold rings is that they don’t have the stop pin that most air rifle rings/bases have to deal with the forward/backward springer recoil cycle.

Alot of rings you can flip the clamp to fit 11mm better. But normally scope setup that come with airguns are the cheapest as possible. If they are flat based scope rings, this can happen on curved rails. Kind of gotta level them as you are clamping.

Springers i use a 1 piece base.

I had already tried to flip the clamping piece but it has a different edge that didn’t fit the groove properly. Late last night I decided to try a desperate move…I pulled the scope from the rings and turned the rings around 180* and they mounted properly and centered over the action. The only thing I can think of is that the claw setup on the rings might be slightly offset and by reversing them it allowed for proper alignment? The rings were pre-mounted by Gamo.

FatCatsDad- thank you so much for the kind offer. I think I’ll shoot it as is for the time being, I’m sure there’s a deserving new, young air rifle shooter out there who needs that rail set up more than I. Very classy gesture.
 
I have the same rifle. When I got it the first thing I did was replace the rings and scope with a Leapers 1-piece mount and Centerpoint 1.5-6x32. It cost about $290 from D&L Airguns. I have the 495pfs version of this rifle as well and it came with the same scope and rings as the 1250 and I found that the scope was so bad that it wasn't even worth trying on the 1250 when it arrived. I also replaced the trigger adjustment screw with a longer m2.5x10 screw (you can get these at a R/C hobby shop) in order to get it down to a lighter pull weight and now it shoots very nicely and quite accurate for a relatively cheap rifle.

8mm or 10mm is what everything I saw on youtube said related to this. The store I got them from didn't have any 10mm so I got M2.5x16 and cut them down. I cut them a touch longer to accommodate for material loss when I file and stone finished the cut end. 10mm will give you more adjustment range but if screwed all the way in it will cause the gun to fire when cocking so you have to back it off a bit.

Edit: It has been a couple years since I did this so I just went back and checked a bunch of the videos I watched and they all say 8mm screws, comments on a couple of the videos said 8mm was a bit too short and to use a 10mm screw, or a couple very thin washers, and fine tune it. I checked the screws I got because I knew I had bought two different lengths and they were 8mm and 16mm. The 8mm didn't give me adjustment I wanted so I used the 16mm and cut and hand finished them for the proper fit.

Hey all, thanks again for all of the helpful replies and PM’s.

I ordered a few M2.5x10 screws from Amazon for far less than it would have cost me to drive to the city.

Trigger feels much better. Now I have 99 spare screws lol.
