Ok, the barrel on my M1 is pretty ratty, and I think it's time to replace. I'm firmly on the fence as far as calibre- stay with .30-06 or go .308. -opinions? I've been looking at the .308 barrels that TradeEx has for sale, any of you cats have any experience with these barrels? The price seems a little cheap, wunnerin if it's too cheap. I'm not after an Ultra-match-hammer-forged-by-the-Dark-Lord-Sauron thousand dollar barrel, but I don't want no tent peg neither.

I have 2 Garands rebarreled with Tradex Citadel barrels. I mounted a Amegaranges scout mount, using a Leupold 2.5x eer scope. Still working on loads, groups are around 2-21/2" at 100 meters. From the first, when running patches through the bores, I could feel the smooth travel and lack of any resistance, indicating that the bores were well lapped when made. I believe the .308 will prove be more accurate. Just in the process of installing another Amegaranges mount on a 30-06 Garand to compare accuracy. I use the scope, as these old eyes just can't work with the rifles iron sights anymore.

A spacer block available from Brownells, so 30-06 can't be inserted into the rifle. www.amegaranges has the best scout mounting system available IMHO.
