Garand 5 round clips?

Does you know of anyone in Canada that sells Garand 5 rounders?

I am not mechanically inclined to make my own nor have the tools.

Looking to possibly take my Garand hunting this year if I can scare a clip up.
 
Marstar listed 'em at $7.50 each. Sold out, of course. Try the gun shows. Mind you, somebody here may have a few for sale. EE?
 
Your best immediate bet is to get someone from the US to forward some to you. Surely it'll be under the ITAR exceptions (obsolete, non-current military goods, under $100 in value). Home made jobs may or may not work.
 
its legal to hunt with a garand with the 8rnd en blonc clip. there are exceptions to every rule. check in firearms regs and hunting regs. i could be wrong for your area but in ontario this is still possible.

Thanks, I saw the Marstar page too. There's a Charlie in EE that is looking for some too, in fact that is what twigged me I should get off my butt and start looking too if I wanted the Garand along this fall. Didn't look like he broadcast asking about pingers so I took the initiative. Will be happy to share the wealth with him if a source turned up.

The AB regs say any semi has to be only 5 rounds.

From what I've found quickly in the act. I'll phone a fish cop and ask to see if he knows different.

What if a guy was to solder/braze/tig them into a three round clump? I can't see it being any lamer than the wooden 'plug' in my shotgun. Not makin an argument, I'm admittedly clueless when it comes to this. Another bizarre and pointless rule.
 
It is unlawful to set out, use or employ any of the following items for the purpose of hunting big game:
* "an auto-loading firearm that has the capacity to hold more than 5 cartridges in the magazine,"

Always kind of wondered about that one. Where is the magazine on a Garand?

You have a good point. I was going off assuming it had to be a permanent change of capacity.

It does seems contradictory where a Lee Enfield is fine to have a 10 round clip, but a semi can only 5, and your example, a wooden plug in a shotgun versus a plug in a Garand.

I'm thinking their reasoning was its relatively harder to cheat with having to pull the shotgun apart and put the plug back in quickly versus ejecting the rifle clip and saying you had that plug in. More big brother thinking I agree, too.

Another question to clarify when I call.

Interesting. And I can't see where they define "magazine" in the act or regulations either.
 
The Garand just uses an internal magazine, with the follower sprung by the oprod spring. It may be possible to pin the floorplate of the trigger group like an sks but please dont. I think it would be best to call the CFC and get it straight from them. It does have the capacity for 8 rounds, but it is excluded from the 5 round rule because of its historic value, how that plays into hunting regs I cant say. I do know people who hunt with them with 5 rd clips, and plan to in the fall with mine so I'd kind of like to know too.

I vaguely remember instructions he gave way back when in a vid of how to make 5 rounders, or is it 1 rounders ? I forget. Principle should be the same anyway. As I recall it involves cutting a tab on the back of the clip to act pretty much as a rivet would for an AR mag.

"...There's a Charlie in EE..." You could contact him and share the export handling fee from Gunparts. 2/5 round clips(2 rounds on one end, 5 on the other) run $5.40US each. Their $25 export handling fee is kind of pricey for just a few of 'em though.
The M1 Rifle is not on the 'restricted for export' list. So they might just send 'em. Be worth a phone call. 866-686-7424

I prefer the Numrich approach because they do ship to Canada. Hmmm... Cannot find them at Brownells. DARN! Gotta keep looking at Numrich.

Well for the rest of you Dremel fans.... making up a few of them would be a fun experiment, especially once you find the right dimensions and then made up a bunch for sale. It's just that the size of the clip (fatter than 2 cm) will end up costing more for the mailing! :eek:

I used to make up 2 rd clips when competing NRA High Power matches using my Douglas bbl'ed M1 Garand 20 years ago! Really easy. Dremel is your friend. Wear safety glasses! Experiment! Discover! Have lots of fun! Do I sound like Ms. Frizzel on the Magic Schoobus?? :D

Just ordered 1 single, 2 2round, and 4 5round enblocks from Creedmoor Sports also today. I've been looking for years for these that would ship to Canada. Fulton Armory doesn't I guess.

I had thought that being exempt for capacity 8 that the 5 shot rule that applied to hunting as well was exempt. I'd have to re read to figure out Ontario Hunting Laws but I think I'll just carry the 5 shot version.

The 1 round is going to make load development easier. Not always having to make in groups of 8. Usually I know after the 1st 4 or 5 if its a load I want to pursue.
