Hey guys.

Here's a couple pics of my collection - as well as a Danish contract (Breda). BMB#### - anything that looks like rust is just dry grease.

I've been constantly trying to figure out more history about my danish Garand... bought it last year. The rifle matches 100%, barely fired, still had some original packing grease when I bought it. Receiver marked FKF w/ crown (1955), barrel marked B. SID. 64 1955 with a D in a circle following. Would like to know if there are actually slings marked the same... I know there are bayonets/scabbards marked the same, but hard to find one in good shape (and they aren't as plentiful as US issue). Also - where exactly were these manufactured?

http://www.odcmp.com/Services/Rifles/Danish.htm - bit of history.

Here's my collection:

Left to right -
SA 700### 1942 (mixed) (my shooter) w/ ramline stock
Winchester receiver (forgot the year), w/ mixed SA parts w/ bayonet
SA 3000### 195x - Post war parts
SA 300### 1941 - WW2 parts... barrel/band pin/stock are post war though
SA 5000### - 1950's - Rebuilt by Red River arsenals
BMB ###x - 1955 w/ crown - Some history unknown yet.

It's got a Danish replacement barrel and an aftermarket Boyds stock....that doesn't quite add up to 100%:)
Breda and Beretta of course were manufactured in Italy.
For the dried on cosmoline stains, some laquer thinner on a q-tip will remove it easily.

Yea.. I figured maybe the barrel was a replacement... but technically this rifle back then was put together from parts? Aftermarket boyds stock? Though I didn't see any markings on it, some of the metal parts aren't marked either, how do you figure it is a boyd's stock?

Wouldn't the stocks be marked boyds somewhere though? Some Italian stocks are fairly hefty... even other stocks available for the Garand. Doesn't make sense why someone would put a boyds on a rifle that is in new condtion in the first place.

Yeah, it's very proud in some areas, that's a dead give away. Take the stock off and look in the barrel channel, might be stamped in there. Itallian stocks were the same as USGI profile. Danish replacement beech is pretty hefty but still not proud like a Boyds. Also the Danish beech is super ugly and very obvious what it is.
Itallian stocks will have the rifle s/n stamped on the left side of the butt running vertical, close to the buttplate. They will also be stamped SILE on the end of the butt if you remove the buttplate. Danes would re-stamp the number on the bottom of the heel during refurbs as well.
Take a look at Badgerdogs original unissued Breda for comparision, link to lots of pics.

Tradex has Danish M1 bayo's http://www.tradeexcanada.com/esquif2/index.php?option=com_paxgallery&task=table&gid=3
Check with him, might have some Danish slings tto go with it

Yeah, I thought that was a bit early for a VAR barrel as I have only seen 60's era productions. The Beretta I got had excellent metal but a horrible beech stock. I replaced with a Boyds....

Well if i could post pics i could show you my '57 VAR barrel.
B. SID barrel is original for sure. I traded my breda with that same
barrel to 375rum for a nice 1952 M1D.

Hmmm,

I may be able to have a stock imported from Italy - Has MT markings on it and is 100% original. Of course the gun wouldn't be original, but atleast it'd be correct :)

Don't bother, gun looks great as is. Just shoot it lots and enjoy it:)

I have a 1955 SA sitting in the safe I've had it 15 years and still haven't pulled the trigger I have a bunch of enfields doing the same thing I have fired my M1D but every time I do that damn enbloc hits me on top of my head .it might be because i shoot left handed .

If that barrel was any sort of USGI the drawing # stamp would include "SA", "WRA", "HRA", "IH" and maybe even "Marlin". I sold an M1 long ago that had a similar stamping on the barrel and I fould it to be Itialian. Italy made replacment barrels, and many other replacement parts, for the Danes before they made their own.

HTH,

rifle guy
