I just picked up a M1 Garand and the empty enbloc is not ejecting out of the receiver when the last round is ejected. I am cycling it manually as I havnt fired it yet and the enbloc is popping up a bit but not being ejected from the receiver. I put in a new clip ejector spring inside the trigger group and it is still doing the same thing ?

When I purchased by Garand, I bought it from an "Armorer" that was using it to test body armor.
He gave me a good deal on it cause it wouldnt take/eject the enbloc properly (Paid 100 bucks for it)
Long story short. Stripped the rifle down to every part, compared it to an exploded diagram, answer became apparent.
Broken part, part in backwards. 10 dollar fixed.
So, start stripping

The Op Rod need to be cycled quite fast for the clip to eject if I recall correctly.
+1 on shooting it.
Thanks for the replies ...and thats what I am hoping will happen....I probably put in a new clip ejector spring needlessly as it seems to work the same as before I put in a new spring ...but thats ok as it was a cheap part anyhow.
This is the fix according to Scott Duff as well. (author M1 Garand: Owners Guide).
There are a few other possibilities to be checked incl;
- the en bloc clip itself. Try it with a new or lightly used GI en bloc
- the extension of the op rod catch that engages the clip latch can become worn
- interference with the tail of the clip latch with the cutout in the stock. If there is contact here, relieve the wood a bit.
I`d check it on the range with suitable ammo making sure that the gas cyl screw is tight and that the rifle is properly lubed.

Isn't this what the timing block is meant to check?
I've had some stiff/wonky cheap enbloc in the past and this is true. It was noticeable when pushing them in that something was wrong however.
A timing block would help to verify the serviceability of the clip latch extension. Interference of the clip latch tail with the stock cutout is a physical check. You don't need a timing block to check for proper timing. An en bloc full of dummy rounds is just as good for a timing check.
Well I took out my new to me Garand today in the middle of a snowstorm...it was just like Bastogne ...except that I had more clothing , ammo , sleep ,food, nobody was trying to kill me and it wasn't as cold ... but it was just like Bastogne ..lol.
I loaded up a couple new 5 round en blocs and the first 4 shots the empty casing remained in the chamber . I could remove the fired casing from the chamber with my keys so I kept trying. After those initial rounds the rifle worked fine for the remaining 16 rounds and it even went ping when it ejected the enbloc after the last rounds were emptied ...so no issues there .
Might need some more tweaking yet but I LOVE THIS RIFLE !!

The new receiver will be put on next week here in Petawawa at Hungrys clinic.
