Thinking of replacing the front sight on my M1 Garand and installing a match front sight. Is this an easy process I can do on my work bench? First you must remove the set screw...then do you just tap the front sight out?....once the set srew is removed will the sight be loose enough to gently tap out?

Yes. It is just dovetailed. Whether it will be loose enough to gently tap out depends on your rifle, but it is supposed to tap out. Make sure you support the barrel on a block of wood, then tap using a piece of hard wood or a hard plastic mallet. If it doesn't come out fairly easily soak it with some Kroil or other super fine penetrating oil.
