If anyone is looking for the screw that holds the Garand front sight in place just go to any fastener or hardware store and pick up a 1/4" x 1/2" fine thread cap screw. After looking at some onsite dealers, online sales and ebay it looks as if an $.11 screw can be pawned off as a $5.95 'usgi' part. I picked up 20 for just over $2.30. ( and yes, I will be needing 20)

Got me thinking, must be about the earliest use of an Allen type screw in a firearm. The same deal goes for the lower band retaining pin. If you think that $5.95 is a fair price for a 'USGI' spring pin then go at it. I am using 1/8" spring pins from my local automotive parts place. $.10 a piece and no different than 'original' or 'usgi spec'. With every build being slightly different sometimes pins get bent, 'sproing' onto the floor never to be found or just go missing. A small bin of pins cost me a large coffee.
