Hello all, I'm hoping to take my M1 out hunting in AB this fall. The problem is I don't have any of the special 5rd en bloc clips...do you guys think I could run into problems loading only 5 rds into one of the 8rd clips? Don't want to run into fish and game guys with the proper 5 rds in the magwell only to have them accuse me of having fired a few already...maybe I'm being paranoid, any advice?

Thanks for the reply, doing some reading online (not on the AB regs page, too hard to navigate!), it looks like because it has the capacity to hold 8, I'm SOL regardless if I only put 5 in. The hunt for the 5 rd en blocs continues!

Advice ? Get a different rifle for hunting. :D Lot more negatives than positives here. :)

Years ago I came across instructions to modify Garand clips to 5 rounds.

It didn't look difficult to do, so maybe try googling it and see if that solves your problems.

Numrich carries the 5 round clips. I sold one here a few months back.

You can also mod a regular clip to hold only 5. That is basicly what the store-bought ones are anyway, just more "tastfully" done.

My understanding is that for hunting, most provinces have a 5 rd mag capacity limit for semi-autos while hunting. A regulation completely separate from the fact that a garand is legal with 8 rds for the purpose of only shooting. Bolt actions having no mag cap limit for hunting or sport shooting...

To me, it just sounded like some random cgn dudes username. Didnt realize numrich gun parts was an actual thing. I sincerely apologize for not knowing about every firearms website on the Internet. Thank you to those who were actually helpful and not snide Internet elitists

Sakonut, you will need to modify an enbloc or buy one. Numrich isn't cheap with the shipping though, and isn't fast, I'd modify an enbloc myself. From your Alberta regs (easily found):

It is unlawful to:

Set out, use or employ any of the following items for the purpose of hunting big game:
Ammunition of less than .23 calibre,
Ammunition that contains non-expanding bullets,
An auto-loading firearm that has the capacity to hold more than 5 cartridges in the magazine,

no need to get all butt hurt, its unavoidable that you will say something funny on the internetz

for some reason im noticing more and more essyly offended people here, what is it? new generation?

and Sakonut, do try google, you never know when you may find a good source of parts that hasnt been mentioned, or a supplier someone forgot about

just went through the Alberta regs, that is a fricking brease in comparison to Ont :/, and i would say it is clearly said there you cant use garrant, couldnt find any exeptions, so I would be calling your natural resources office to find out if there are any, but from what I see you just found a reason to buy yourself a new gun ;)

No biggie, just quick to offend. I ended up ordering the 5 rounders off numrich, looks like a hell of site for gun parts! Looking at that reg, my interpretation is that I'm good to go...if I have only 5 rd clips on me, I really can't see how they are able to ding me. I'll call one of the offices and see if there is anyone with more than two brain cells that can help me... :)
