I will make some test with RCBS 30-180-RN cast boolits for a 30/06 Garand. I have a good quantity of Unique and SR7625 and i'd like to find a load that work the action of the Garand for casual plinking. I have some loading manual, but i'd like to hear from poeple who have actually tryed that and can share a receipe that work.

Thanks

I've never gotten pistol/shotgun powders to cycle a semi with cast bullets without extremely high pressures. I stick with reduced loads of fast-medium burn rate rifle powders. SR-4759, 4198, 4895, Benchmark, IMR3031, etc. have worked well for me in several rifles but I've never loaded for a Garand before.

I've had good luck using the 60% rule with H4895 and loading up till the action cycles. I've got some loads that will only cycle the rifles above certain temperatures because they're so borderline. No problem getting bullets stuck in the barrel; just lacking gas port pressure to cycle.

I'm currently loading cast for an SKS, 10.5" AR, and a Norc M14. The Norc load uses H4198 1-2gr below starting load (I forget exactly) and the Norc likes H4895 10-20% below the starting load. I forget what the SKS load is.

Myself, I would be highly surprized to discover there is a cast bullet solution for this rifle.

In the not too distant past, CGN persons trying to use electroplated rifle bullets for the M1 were disappointed with the results in thier handloading experiments.
I suspect cast bullets and this gas system are very much unsuitable for each other in the semi automatic function.

The wonderful Garand has been around for many years, and I don't see any NRA literature (or otherwise) that endorses this specific practice.

(probably more cleaning then shooting)

my 2 bits only.....

Yep. Have members of castboolits.com comfirmed that it's not gonna work with Unique. But no problem with 4895 using between 33 and 36 grains. I don't care for the price, i almost exclusively use cast bullet in my guns, milsurp included.

Heavy bullet and slow powder seem to be key with garands and m14. I use 200gr cast with imr4350 in my m305. Plenty of info on castboolits forum as well as milsurp and m14 forums.
