Is someone still manufacturing this thing new, and is it unrestricted? Saw something very similar in a gun store a while back, it may not have been an M1 but it suree looked like it--what models are available that look similar to it?

Matt

Springfield Armory (a commercial business) in Illinois makes a reproduction. Think in terms of the better part of two grand.
There are originals around. P&S Militaria have some in inventory.

Springfield Armoury is still making them, quite pricy though. If you want an origional one, keep looking, they can be found from about $600.00 to $ 1,000.00. The similer one you saw was most likely an M-14 variation.

I remember when Springfield offered them a few years ago. Not positive but IIRC they were based on rebuilt receivers. With all the machining required to build all these small parts they would cost a fortune to make and i don't believe a big enough market exists given all the surplus ones out there...

I managed to grab one :) a new 2002 Springfield Armory Inc. M1 Garand in .30-06 Sprng. It/they feature new walnut stock, new barrel and reciever, some smaller parts are USGI parts. I've taken it to the range several times, and I love it...very accurate and well made, also has lifetime warranty from SA Inc. If you can find one, they can go for around $1,500.00 + ...an excellent MilSurp M1 you can grab for around $1,000.00.

Good luck.

did it look like this?

Yeah it looked like that, but had a smaller magazine and the wood color was more of a beige

I'll look up the m14 and see if that's it, thanks

Matt

hey uhm that was actually a joke, the probabilities you have seen the rifle i pointed out are slim to none...
probably an m14 tho all the ones I've seen where even darker than an M1, including mine

On frontier firearms' website the picture shows a lighter oil colour on the stock but my guess would be it's all about the picture's lighting

SA did a limited production run in 2004 or around that time but that was it.

SA build them on new australian receiver and assembled them with new barrel, new wood, new finish and other Garand (SA) parts. They are all in the 7000000 serial number range. Mine is a 1974 and they were offered until last year on SA web site. They also offered some commemorative edition such as the Iwo Jima in a wooden crate a few year back (2006 ??)

My example is like new. I had Mils Sup before, but owning a NEW Garand is something else. if you can find a new one, go for it.

made sense but they decided to release the m14 instead, all in all they are similar rifles (the above garand even has the full auto) but in different calibers
