Just wondering, does it really matter which op rod I get?

I need on at standard length, not he cut one, so does it matter if I get an HRA vs a harvester one?

Im new to this, but my thinking is that the HRA op rods are newer, and should work better or at least just as good, and they seem to be cheaper.

This would be just for shooting, not a collectors piece.

Thanks in advance

Harrington & Richardson produced M1's at the same time as International Harvester for the Korean war. Both produced rifles between 1953 - 1956 So really they are both the same age. H&R op rods will be more easily found as they produced rifles more than IH. They both used the same drawing numbers through out production so both op rods would be more or less the exact same.

In the grand scheme of things I would get whatever op rod that matches the USGI receiver, if its a Breda or Beretta receiver then it doesn't really matter. But if I had more H&R parts then I would go for the H&R if I had more IH parts then I would go for the IH.

Regular 30-06 M1 parts are interchangeable between makes, including oprods. If you've ever watched a video from the CMP in the US, you'll see that when they re-build Garands, all parts are intermixed during the rebuilding process.

All op rods are interchangeable. The key things are proper fit and functionality. The piston and tab where the rod engages the receiver are critical wear areas. The rod must also cycle freely without binding.
