I am wondering how to understand when my M1 Garand (Springfield) was made. I’ve read some forums on line(not here) and I am getting conflicting information.
So here it is I would like someone with knowledge to let me know when my garand was made. For example the serial number is 5315242, does this mean 53 (year) 152 (day of that year)?
As well I would like to know when the following where made?
Bolt 6528287 HRA U
Op Rod D35382 9 SA
Barrel SA-F6535448 3 54 MD 39 (as well as 2x P and DOD eagle stamps), so I know it's post WWII
On the right side of the receiver below the cocking handle A 54 F 6528291
Trigger housing 6528290 - HRA N
Hammer ?-6008-I.W.P.A.
Thanks, to all those who can help and for your time.

Your rifle was made in approx mid 1954. If the barrel is original to the receiver it will bear a month/year date which can help date the receiver plus or minus 2 months in relation to the barrel date.

What are the markings on both the barrel and the bolt?

Smitsauce: Thanks I have check that site before, and that's the one that conflicts against the 1953 date I found another site. Internet.....never know what is reliable source?
Purple: Thanks to you as well I've added more info, hopefully you can guide me more now. If what you're telling me the 3 54 on the barrel is March 1953?
Thanks guys much appreciated

The bolt and trigger housing were made by Harrington & Richardson. Barrel is Springfield made in March 1954, most likely original to the receiver. Op rod is wartime Springfield. Hammer might be a Winchester, but need to know all markings to be certain. Parts are interchangeable regardless of manufacturer and many were swapped around in service.

Purple: You're awesome, however after searching more on line last night for 2-3 hrs. I figured it all out, but boy talk about research for some dinky numbers lol. But your assistance did come in handy with the barrel and receiver. I did confirm on one site that it is the original barrel to the receiver, bummer it wasn't from Korea though :(
So that being said I've figured out how read the drawing numbers and will be looking for SA parts from 54 to restore it to original. Still can't figure out how you decipher the serial number, meaning what hell does 5315242 all translate too? Just wanting to know so if I buy another Garand.
Thanks so much again

There is no mystery to Garand s/ns. Each manufacturer was assigned a specific number block of s/ns. They simply started with the first s/n in their assigned block and then applied them sequentially to each receiver from there. Some examples;

One of my IHC Garands made in Jan 1955 has a s/n starting with 506. Another built in Dec 1955 starts with 521. My HRA built in mid 1954 has a s/n starting with 479.
