Again, as of late there seems to be some more price gouging going on.:onCrack::onCrack: :onCrack:

My advice to all persons looking to purchase a Garand, is not to fall into this trap of excessive prices!:bsFlag:

I do not know if this post is in violation of the rules.....
Sorry in advance to mods.

I am guilty of impulse buying, when I want something I just throw cash at it, right or wrong, likely foolish I know. I do wonder what the market will be like when Marstar and other dealers begin bringing these in in the apparent near future....only time will tell.
Happy Collecting!:)

I just saw that guy's ad. He's giving you a (bad in my opinion) sales job about how all the parts are winchester. And how he put it together himeself. So now it's a parts gun, so it's gotta be less than $800, right? Wrong. He wants $1500

Get outta town Charlie.

The CMP is totally sold out of M1s. They are probably the largest supplier of 1903's and M1s anywhere. That just shows you the demand in US. It's no different here. That, I'm sorry to say, drives up the price. Nothing anyone can do about it. The days of paying $350 for a decent Garand are over and they'll never come back. Get used to paying at least $900 for a very good condition Garand. Better condition models demand prices ever higher. If you continue to wait for lower prices, you just may miss the boat :(

Shooter grade Garands in the USA sell for $600.00 to $800.00 and I see hundreds of them at the major shows.

"...The CMP is totally sold out of M1s...." Nope. M-1 sales are slated to restart in the Fall. Not that it matters to Canadians.
"...The days of paying $350 for a decent Garand are over..." Absolutely and have been for years. Unfortunately, some people think the prices they see Stateside apply here too. Saw one, several times at a gun show, in terrible shape, the guy wanted $775 for. He lugged it back and forth a lot. Same guy wanted $4 each for clips in poor condition.

There is currently a thread about missing the good old days in OT. Read it, weep and quit #####ing.

I hear a load of Garands are coming our way, let's hope this brings the price down a bit.

Haven't we been hearing this for a couple of years now:eek: I would just like to know when and where this is going to happen. Until the boat comes in, I'm still looking for one in reasonable condition for a fair price and will buy it and then if a boatload shows up, I'll git me another one or two:cool:

I want 50 cent a Gallon (Imperial Gallon, not U.S. Gallon) Gasoline!
LOL, Coyote, you beat me to it!

I remember the days when (under that wonderful leader PET), we went metric... just before gas hit a dollar a GALLON. All of a sudden, 22 cents a liter didn't seem so bad!

Stinking Liberals.

As per the title, Klunk hit the nail on the head. Because y'all know that when the Libs take power next (let's all hope it's not for many many years), Garands and all semi's, and all handguns, are gonzo.

So enjoy whilst you can. Our ancestors stuck with the Crown, even though they had the chance to join the revolution in 1775, and WE (the majority of Canuckleheads, in present day) are still stuck in the same mindset that the gov't knows best and only passes laws that are "good" for us. Whether we know it, or like it, or not.

you can build a shooter M1 for less then $600 pretty easily. You can usually build one for under $500 if you have patience and shop around. There are tonnes of parts around.

In fairness, go price out a full set of wartime Winchester parts. It would cost well over $1500 on e-bay!

That being said, the idea of assembling as-built garands 60+ year after the fact seems pointless to me given they are all rebuilds these days.

Agreed. I simply cannot see the point in paying a premium for a bitser rifle assembled from miscellaneous parts from one maker. In the US, Bruce Canfield is suggesting that because of parts rematching that paying a premium for a "matching" Garand is not advisable.
I disagree with the term "price gouging". Nothing sells for more than the buyer will pay. It is market pricing, supply and demand. Don't like the price? Don't pay it! If you uninformed about values, don't be paying serious money for anything. If you cannot spot alterations, restorations, be careful about paying top dollar. Ultimately the question must be asked, "Is it worth $X to me? If I decide to sell it later, will I lose serious money?" If the answer to these questions is unknown, maybe the purchase should not be made.
The irony is that the best single source of original never rebuilt M-1s in the US is the batch of rifles supplied to the Brits during WW2, little used, and subsequently surplused. Apart from the red bands, they are intact, original, early production rifles. Of course, some US collectors immediately removed the red bands....

A bit of relativity

30 yrs ago I bought a stone mint Letterkenny Arsenal 1969 rebuild for $180.My gross monthly pay at the time was $1800. Were I to sell it today,I'd expect $1200 anyway. So,if a high grade M1 rebuild/put-together goes for $800 today, bounce that against your paycheck, and also consider the overall availability of these pieces today. Here's another one to compare. In 1968 I was thinking very hard about a mint Springfield 03A4 sniper rifle for $125.I was making $400 a month and decided I could'nt afford it.Last year I finally found another one in lesser condition and paid $2000 for it and a scope bought separately.Gee,I really should have bought that $125 piece back then. Now I also remember new, in-arsenal-grease Savage No4s selling for $30 back in 1973.A buddy and I bought a case of them and sold them off shortly thereafter at an immense profit of $10 a pop.Today that rifle would probably bring $700.Now if you really want to weep, consider a No4 Sniper selling for $80 back in 1973.So these things do get relatively more expensive over time, just a function of supply and demand like anything else.
