I've got a shorty m305 on the way and the one improvement I would like to make before shooting is too replace the rear sight. I've looked online and it seems marstar sells them but have none in stock is there anywhere else in Canada to purchase the garand rear sight?

For those of you who might be considering trying to get a USGI rear sight from "Andy" in Italy, be advised that he currently is out of stock.

When I asked him if he was going to get any more, his answer was...

"I hope".

Anything wrong with Brownells, other than shipping costs?.....Do they sell good quality rear sights?......

I never looked to see if they have garand sight parts. The springfield M1A ones won't work with the base I have. I think I'll hit up treeline or ebay as I'd like genuine garand knobs/pinion.

Dial windage all the way to left side, then loosen the center collar from windage side , loosen and remove windage knob and it should all come apart. Installation is reverse, with sight base all the way to left side.

Some of my Garand projects are a bit behind so I've put up a pair on EE in the Milsurp section: a lockbar version and an italian look'n one.

Why is every one buying new rear sights for the M14? I realize mine is stiff and sticky, But is there any accuracy advantage or am I missing some thing?!

Early Norc 2002, 2003, 2005 had soft (read: high school heat treating) windage and elevation knob threads. They gave us goofy or surprising results, such as stripped and free-wheeling knobs.

No worries... easy fix, just replace the windage and elevation knobs with USGI M14 or M1 Garand replacements. ;)

Do this only if you are serious about iron sight use. If you are scoping the rifle, then save your money. Interestingly enough, the 2009 series and later have better and more predictable sight operation. That's an improvement. :D

I just like my iron sights!

Thinking...thinking... I like iron sights on my shorty, but I am seriously thinking about a second full-sized gun with a scope in it. I'll clean up the sights on my shorty and see how they feel...if not, Numrich here I come!

Am I correct in looking at "Rear Sight Complete New style part# 407320 $64.40" ?
