To the OP. I received another lightly used SIAU 1967 Tipo 2 7.62 Garand barrel today. It gauged .301 at both muzzle and throat, about the same as the other 4 that I have. This is a nice tight barrel and I'd venture that yours is pretty close to it in terms of use/wear. This is by no means a "sloppy" barrel as your gunsmith has told you. I suggested that you do a reverse bullet test in the muzzle. I'm betting that the result will surprise you.
