Its been a while since someone posted about bare receivers. What have the Italian stripped receivers been selling for lately. I keep seeing the ads but are sold before I see them and the price is erased. How about bare WW2 variants?

I bought a bunch year ago . You could find them anywhere between $59 to $100 dollars.

I started buying them when they were $50. Made a road trip to SFRC when they were almost giving them away! brought home 10 that day. Bought more as the prices dropped, folks gave up their projects when they realized how damned expensive parts were (when you could find them) Found some at auctions, 2 and 3 consecutive #'s. If all goes as planned, should have three more together by summers end.

Barrels have gone up in Price, NOS bolts are drying/dried up, so have many of the parts in Canada. So if you want parts then go to the US, all while the CDN $ has gone down in value.
Honestly if you can build one that is mostly true to the era (all PB, BMR, or Springfield) then new stock and re park (not the do it your self park).... $1600 to $1800.

The Garand receivers which have been available in Canada for the past 18 years or so are what's left over from the great parting out exercise where Danish surplus rifles were stripped for parts with parts kits exported to the US. Under US law the receivers cannot be exported to the US so they remained here.

I've bought many loose receivers to build rifles on over the past 18 years. Prices on the surplus Breda and Beretta receivers have ranged from $25 to $100 over this time while US made receivers have gotten progressively more expensive due to higher demand by collectors. At one point you could find good US built receivers anywhere from $40 upwards and the prices on them have progressively increased to the $250 -$350 range, and even more, due to greater collector interest. Early on I bought several Winchester receivers for $40 and a couple of IHC receivers for $50, but those are as far gone as last Christmas's turkey.

Although the Breda and Beretta receivers and parts don't have the collectability of the US Garands, they were built to a high quality line and tend to be less used than many of the US ones which were overhauled one to several times in military service. Parts have consistently increased in price and will continue to do so because of reduced supply and increased demand. A $25 to $50 Breda receiver looks like a great deal until you start rounding up all the parts required to build a rifle on it. At the end of the day you are now looking at up to $1800 to build a Garand based on parts availability and exchange rates, and that might be a bit on the conservative side.:sok2

wow, thanks for the very detailed info :)

My 308 full length project started out to be a 'cheap' alternative.. that changed when someone said "oh look here, we have brand new .308 criteron barrels in canada"... lol 500$ later

Got two free because my buddy didn't want to bother building them.

Instead of his spare parts bin, then they were sitting in mine. Gave one away, still have the other.
