I was surprised to see that M1 Garand rifles as well as M14 rifles are still being used by the Philippine regular army.

The Garands look to be in pretty good shape considering their probable age. It didn't look like any of them we carrying more than 80-100 rounds for any of their rifles. I didn't see any sidearms but then again, who needs a sidearm when you have an M1 Garand with 8 rounds of 30-06 on tap?

Their officer was carrying an A2.

They are men of small stature but carried their full sized battle rifles easily as their load out, especially given the lack of plate armour seemed to make their load very managable, even in the 34C high humidity heat.

Im not 100% but if i remember correctly, these men are the CAFGU (Civilian Armed Forces Geographical Unit) they were also issued m1 carbines.

"Midgets with M14's"

These guys are perfectly designed for the Tavor
or other Tonka Toy type weapons, a full
power 30 cal rifle is going to kick a 100 pound
guy/kid very hard.

Which ever country sold them these weapons played
a terrible joke on them.

Interesting post....

A friend of mine, originally from the Phillippines, was in.... some sort of reserve officer corps while she went to university.

Knowing that I was interested in shooting, she mentioned that she could field strip a Garand blindfolded.

Now everyone behave themselves, I never did ask her to put a blindfold on and prove it.....or for any other purpose.

She mentioned that some members also used Uzis, and she regretted never having the chance- thought they were 'cute'.

The entire Red Rifle crew has generously agreed to a Humanitarian Mission,
they will exchange one of there SKS's (Chinese) for either a Garand or M14,
the Philipine Folk have to foot the bill for shipping. Make sure not to tell
them about the corrosive ammo "issue" and the part about boiling water.

Let us know when the first shipment arrives and we will jump into action.

I know a 90 pound blond who can shoot a 30-06 all day! She handles the recoil easily! Just takes practice!

The reality is that they're much tougher than we are, most of us wouldn't go hunting with a Garand, these guys are busting through jungle looking for people who want to kill them with one.

Seriously? You realize that all the rifles in WWI and before were full sized too right? And that small statured soldiers managed quite well? Also you might remember a little tiff called WWII and the fact the US supplied the Philippine forces both during and after. They seemed to have done a pretty good job even without Tavors.

"...still being used by..." Third World countries everywhere. I'd bet those guys(some of the toughest guys on the planet) are militia types and not regulars.
"...Whichever country sold..." Given to the PI by the U.S. of A., long ago.

FINALLY! Enjoy your vacation and a big thank you to the mod who put the lid back on
Now regarding your comment, its obvious you have not yet been taught how to hold a rifle properly. I'm betting these guys have and would make you look stupid(er) on the one way range let alone a situation where bullets fly back at you. Thanks for posting Geologist, its great to see these old warhorses still pulling their weight. The M1 doesn't kick all that hard for a .30-06 and the LOP is short, balance is excellent. I bet those men do quite well with them.

I agree, not much kick compared to say, a 303 Jungle Carbine and such, somewhat heavier though. Must be some tough customers.
