I have read a lot of posts on this subject, and I am aware the garand is not meant to be scoped but I am seeking some success stories, and answers regarding the specific mounts for garands.

I am aware of the mounts available for garands...one mounted where rear iron sight is, to the left of the action. The other option is forward of the action towards the front of the rifle. So I took my garand and held it in a firing position while someone held the scope in both locations. At the rear position, it felt awkward looking to the left side of the rifle. Can the rifle be fired comfortably and reliably with the use of a cheek guard attached to the stock? When the scope was placed at the forward position of the rifle, it appeared that the outer edges of my view would blur out, and I lost some filed of view, although the crosshair remained crisp and clear. Is there a way to keep full view of the scope when your eyes are further from it?

If anyone has had success with this, please post....I am hesitant to buy the mount if its not worth the troubles.

I love the setup and there is nothing like shooting offhand with a scout system like this. These were the first handload i made up for it, so i didn't see a lot of reason to keep trying for better( it's a 5 shot group, top right hole is actually 2 bullets):D

garand

Amega ranges mount replaces the standard handguard, uses straps under the barrel, put on a leupold ier scope, and finally the rooster 33 rest. pretty basic actually, shoots like a dream as the mount and scope adds almost 2lbs to the rig, definitely not a "mountain rifle" though:eek: load is 150 sst's and H4895

I got the same mount from Ebay a while ago; a guy had about a dozen of them he was selling. I haven't tried mine out yet at the range (freakin cold!!!), but is sure points nice and getting on target is very fast. I'm shooting 165gr Accubonds over 50gr IMR 4895 for my hunting load.

I have a Amega ranges/ 2.5 Leupold scope on my 7.62x51 garand. Works great. I have an extra mount if anyone is interested. Using low QD mounts, I don't require a cheek piece.

Northman999, that's a hot load for a Garand. Are you using a McCaan gas system?

No, that's just my max load that I worked up to, with some advice from a Garand reloading thread I started on this site a while ago. It's very accurate and I've had no problems with it. I don't actually shoot that load very much; mostly I shoot bulk 150's over 45gr IMR 4895, it's soft and easy on the gun. I'm actually looking for an adjustable gas nut right now just to lower the wear and tear on my rifle. I've found only one place in the U.S (none in Canada) that sells the adjustable gas nuts and they don't ship to Canada (even though it would be legal) so I'll have to keep my eyes open.
