Garand spontaneous disassembly

the girl in the video
I was very lucky with the outcome. I have lots of splinters and bruising, but nothing broken. My left hand took the brunt of the blow to my wrist and palm of my hand. Still pretty painful, but I will be fine. Thanks for the concern.

bolt was not fully in battery. no squibs. if you look closely she followed the charging handle home.

Very difficult to get an OOB detonation with the M1, but not impossible I suppose.

Hard to tell without watching the video a whole lot close a few more times, but my money is strongly on a barrel obstruction from the prior round.

hold the m1 bolt back and fire (Hold it out of battery)
the hammer will go no matter what. try it . i just did and got same results.
you can see the gas from the last round leave the barrel so no obstruction

That is all well and fine, but what I really want to try is taking a primed case with no powder and bullet and seeing if that will actually hit the firing pin, not just release the hammer.

Even if it does hit the firing pin, I am not convinced it will fire. Maybe I will play around with that tomorrow and get back to you.

don't use live primer use your wife's nail polish (polish a used primer). let it sit to dry and test. if the polish chips than you get your answer

No wife/ girl at the moment. Some oil will have to suffice, but regardless, I do not believe that there is any danger if I take a primed only cartridge and attempt to ignite it out of battery, The cartridge is far enough into the chamber that 90% of the primers energy will go through the barrel.

Regardless, in this test I will be wearing safety glasses. :)

so no nail polish/ use marker/ use a paper sticker/ or at last a live primer. lol i just used a sticker and with bolt OOB the firing pin made a hole on the paper when hammer stroked it. M1 garand can shoot when out of battery. why we don't see it that often is because of that STRONG spring it has.the spring wont let the bolt to stay OOB but if you ride the bolt home you have chance of blowing your hand. look at the video how she charged the round that blew up.

Interesting.

Well, I have a few primed cases lined up next to my Garand in the gunroom now and once the brewers delight wears off by tomorrow morning, I shall give it a good test on my two garands, just see if it is a fundemental flaw in the design or just a freak occurance.

Interesting regardless. :)

Yeah were gunna give it a test tomorrow cause we call BS on this working deagle!!!

i have 2 m1s sitting right beside me and i tested this on both. the hammer slams the firing pin even when the lugs are not in place.

An OOB discharge may not result in catastrophic failure, but it will most probably write your gun off, as I found. My AR15 will also let the hammer go before the bolt is locked into battery
