So I liked my norc M14 so much that I picked up a Garand this week. Shot it today and it is so cool to hear that ping after the last shot. Accuracy was really good too. Op rod is marked NM, received is a 1945 date, barrel is perfect inside and metal is good. Sore spot is the fiberglass aftermarket stock.

One hiccup though. The trigger guard tends to come unclipped when firing. Is this a common issue with Garands? When I push it into place it is not nearly as tight as my M14.
 
Check the round pins ( near the front of the trigger guard 0 that serve as locking lugs . Do they look like ' O ' or more like ' D ' ?

I love that sound. I went shooting with a guy from work. I told him that I was going to bring an enbloc to work. Whenever we're in a meeting that is going stupid I'm going to drop it and when it goes *ping* he'll be on the floor laughing. :D
Actually since I don't work in a gun friendly place....maybe not.:redface:

It is just a noise-maker! The other people in the meeting don't need to know what it is or does for real.

As for meeting etiquette, it is the chair's responsibility for keeping on task. Disrupting other people who have the floor is bad manners. It is the equivalent of grunting "Bull-spit!" under your breathe when someone speaks.
 
The Garand, IMHO, is the best battle rifle ever made. Mine went through WW2 and Korea. Sights go to 1200 yds and it will shoot that far. Had to buy my son one for Xmas 2yrs ago so he'd leave mine alone. A side note to the "ping"; my friend and long range mentor served in Korea. They'd fire 2 rouds then throw an empty clip against a rock. The enemy, thinking the rifle was empty, would show themselves. As for the trigger guard, just bend it to the rear a little. It is very springy so one must apply a far bit of force, yet being cautious not to break it.
