US Property Lease guns can be imported into Canada BUT cannot be imported back into the USA. Well... they can but it takes an Act of Congress.. Remember back in 1991 when Ruko Arms imported a bunch of US pump shotguns from Vietnam to Canada and the
boat was suppose to land in Vancouver but for some reason ended up stopping in Seattle first. Bingo, all guns were seized even though it was destined for Canada. Some these guns were eventually released. They were the referbished Winch trench guns that hit the market in late 1998 or abouts.

Yeah, I inspected a few of the trench guns. Very rough shape, rusty, pitted, bad wood. Nothing I wanted to own. I heard the Garands were about the same.
I was told a story a couple of years ago. Whoever went to Vietnam to view the arms for sale, was shown these pristine beauties. Then they were loaded into containers, and the buyer even followed the truck to the ship. But, somehow, the Viets swapped for a bunch of junkers...
True? Who knows?
Sure do remember them cause I bought one. It cleaned up nice, wood has seen hard use and it is a great shooter!
The gunreports article says the South Koreans want to sell the firearms "back" to the US. This may just be a mistake or it could mean that the rifles were bought and paid for, rather than lend leased. A lot of the firearms that were "given" to South Vietnam were actually paid for with Mekong Delta oil. Same goes for aircraft and othre vehicles.
Once all of the hooplah is over, these firearms might just get relaeased for sale into North America. That many Garands and Carbines, would flood the markets and lower prices significantly. Mind you at $220/M1 Garand in Korea, don't expect to see them here at fire sale prices. That price would be for a mix of all grades and prices would vary accordingly once they got here.

One big difference between Vietnam & SK is that Nam is a humid tropical jungle where everything would rot & rust if not stored properly. After Saigon fell & ARVN disintegrated, I doubt maintaining old M1 rifles was on anyone's priority list. SK doesn't have the same problems on its hand. The scopeless SK M1Ds that came here in the 80's were all in excellent shape and selling at premium price.

I dont think Korea got carbines and Garands under lend-lease . wasn't that for big allies like canada and Great Britain. I thought US supplied weapons free under MAP Military Assisstance Program. I haven't read it in awhile i could be wrong.
That will be the Purchase price, not the retail price, IE that will be what the importer pays per unit. Add in the shipping, handling, profit margin, ect and the price goes up. I can see maybe 600 at the low price point maybe?
Canada bought most of the weapons she received from the US. We did get some WWI lend lease destroyers though. I don't know about aircraft. We produced a lot of our own as well. I do know that after WWII was over, we purchased a bunch of P51D and Corsair F4F fighter/bombers to use in Korea, after moth balling and tossing out our Spit Fires, Mosquitoes and fleets of bombers.
Canada purchased some 50,000 Garands which were later sold to Denmark. We also bought a bunch of P14 and P17 rifles as well as Thompson SMGS and several others. The UK on the other hand were in pretty desperate straits on many levels, including financially. They received a lot of Lend Lease equipment. I was also under the impression that if the equipment was later disposed of that the US would receive a portion or most of the reciepts.
That's why I'm wondering why the Koreans are getting rid of the rifles. If they are Lend Lease or MAP firearms, the proceeds will have to go to the US anyway. Mind you, the cost of stroring the firearms for 50 years is probably way more than the rifles are worth.

I wish I bought 4 of the 400 dollar danish M1's many moons back. I still have the one that I bought, but I'm the kinda guy who likes two of a good thing. Or three or four! Ha ha. There is a much higher demand right now though. I doubt we canadians will see any, and I further doubt they'd be anywhere near reasonable in price.
