I needed a new set of rings slightly shorter than what I had laying around for my Cadex 6mmbr build. I did a few hundred kms of driving and found a set of rings that would drop my scope .200 giving me .100 clearance vs the .300 I had.
Brand new Leupold mark 4 with a price tag of $192 plus tax. Not exactly cheap but the build is worth it. A few hundred more kms drive home to do the install.
Get home and realize there is no torx key with the rings. Not a issue as I have plenty (But still annoying for the price). Pull scope off, pull old rings. Put first new Leupold mark 4 ring on.
The first ring will not tighten to the action. Keep in mind this is a Defiance Deviant action and no piece of junk. I checked the second ring and it seems fine.
I got out the calipers to find that when both rings are closed to max, off the gun, one is .015 larger. While .015 doesn't sound like much it makes that ring wobble on my action.
After further inspecting I could find some other disturbing machining.
Is this standard quality for Leupold stuff from their top lines? While I understand nothing is perfect, if I pay premium for something I expect it to be right. Something that cost 2-3 times more than others should have 2-3 times the quality control.
