GARMIN - ALPHA LTE - LTE DOG TRACKER - 010-02847-00

Anyone have any of these in Canada? Anyone had any luck getting them to connect to LTE and if so where in Canada?
I bought one direct from Garmin in July to keep tabs on my 8 mo old Springer puppy during her romps in the woods...

I use it in the Ottawa urban area with lots of strong cell coverage so reception has never been an issue.

The Garmin map and tracking app that you use with a phone is very rudimentary but does the job.
It displays your location and the dog's with its distance from you.
No bearing though but that is pretty self evident on the map display.

It is light and without an external antenna it doesn't interfere with the dog's chasing-about,

I am very happy with the purchase.

Sample track attached - you can zoom in to 70m scale in the app for extra detail

Interesting. I notice your unit shows Virgin as the LTE provider. I'm in a Bell/Rogers/Telus area that has good signal on my phone, but the unit fails to connect to LTE. I've tried 2 units to date and it's the same issue neither one ever received LTE signal. One day I drove with it to work in southern Ontario close to Toronto and it still never connected. Garmin support said they're working on a fix, but at this point I'm thinking Bell/Rogers/Telus have something shut off on their towers disabling the compatibility of this product with their LTE coverage. I've also been seeing complaints about Garmin LTE watches not working in the same areas of Ontario on reddit. Hopefully Garmin gets this sorted out but I can't see that happening before Nov. 4th deer hunt opener. I guess my beagle is going to be running without any tracker this year.

Sorry to hear about your difficulties...I am with Virgin and I haven't used the tracker outside of the Greater Ottawa area so I can't comment on compatibility elsewhere...thankfully, I don't anticipate needing it further afield anytime soon

Both Garmin and SportDOG have been making VHF collars for years...LTE (cell) collars are a new thing...they are really meant to augment the VHF collars which are pretty well line-of-sight but will work on their own also

I had a Garmin with four collars and it worked excellent. The collars had an external antenna but it was never a problem. It was used for deer and coyote hunting. Made life much easier
