I have been looking for some gas check material to make up my own gas checks as the prices of these things have gone crazy. I have the gas check maker but finding the right size material is hard to come by. I am looking for material that is .014-.016 thousands thick, aluminum will be fine. what is out there to use ?

This is a copy and paste that i got from one of the CGNs member when i was in your situation, it worked for me and should work for you.

Go to Lowes and have them order a roll of Amerimax , through their Canadian supplier Euramax.
Open the pdf and on the right side click on "Roll Valley Flashing" order what ever you want under the 0.014" column....I got the 68106 6" x 50'.

Did you make your own gas check makers or buy one from the states? I'm looking at getting one myself.

I purchased my gas checks from the usa and when prices went crazy I bought a maker two weeks ago. to practice on my maker I has some .010 material and they made a real nice gas check but they are too loose and will not crimp on due to the metal thickness. you will need .014 to .016 metal to do anything with them. I live at the " end of the world" and trying to get such material is very difficult. all we have here is home hardware and they are useless in ordering such metal and it takes months to get if they send you the right product. I have some metal coming out of England that is the right size and will let you know in the future.

I have ordered 170 feet of half inch strip in rolls from them for 51.00 cdn. it is a start until I figure out the metal supply on my end.

.05$/sq inch. From England. Amazon even with roughly $50 shipping will be .042$/sq inch

Home hardware sells Euromax so they might be able to get in the Amerimax for you.

Home Hardware stocks a roll of aluminum flashing for about $16. It's about 13 thou thick and works well for my .30 and .38 calibres. Since the local HH is just over 200 yards away, I don't bother looking elsewhere. I got into making checks because some of the Hornady checks won't fit the shanks of some other moulds like NOE. You have to be sure that your check maker will make a check that will fit your bullet. Blaser 306 wants to know your shank diameter before he makes you one. If you'd like, I can send you a piece to try.

my local home hardware is a joke when it comes to ordering any material as they take forever to get what you want and they will probably send you something you cannot use. I will never give amazon one red penny of my money, I hate that company that much.

Well you know of any roofing companies...

I've not looked at the cost of hornady checks in a bit, $45-$58! Damn! Remember when reloading was cheap to purchase components! I make my own stuff for my cast product, but how do prices jump 100-200% in less than 4 years. I don't follow the cost of copper, but maybe should start.

it may take a bit of time to find a supplier for my gas check material, but I will find one in time. the price of gas checks in any metal has taken a big jump in the last few years and that is the reason to make your own and try to save a few $.

Check any sheet metal or insulating shops if there's any in your area. Lots of pipe insulation cladding is about .013-.014" thick aluminum and might work good. It's everywhere around here, and scraps that go in the garbage would make lots of gas checks.

Just an idea that might help out...you can Powder coat your bullets to increase the GC base dia. (would be very easy to doo the entire boolit or just the base, whatever you prefer) so the checks you have made will be tight.
Or, as an afterthought...you could just Powder coat and drive your slugs up over 2500 fps without the gas check. I have tested a few powder coated boolits with GC shanks without the GC and some with, and can see no difference between them. I must temper that last statement by adding that 1700 fps was the fastest I shoot any cast so far.
