Has anybody used Hornady 8mm gas checks on the Lee .329 bullet? I plan to start pouring for my 8x56R boomers. I have a good supply of ordinary 8mm Hornady gas checks, and have a Lee 329 sizer kit on order.

Thanks in advance! :)

I used them. They fit perfectly fine, stayed on boolit all the way to target so no problem for me there.

I use those boolits in 8x50R Lebel-this boolit is much more at home there than 8x56R.

From what I hear on Castboolits there are very few rifles around with bores small enough to shoot it accurately. My Steyer barely digest them but yours can be in better shape.

As always best way to find out is just to shoot it and see :)

Good luck!

I "lucked out" with my 8x56R carbine. My bore slugged at .329 which I understand is unusual. My Lee mould casts at .331. I opened my Lee sizer die to .331. Use it to seat the Hornady 8 mm GC's then panlube the bullets. Accuracy has been OK. Have some Lee liquid alox which I should try. Very neat old military carbines especially if you can get them to shoot well. Plan on picking up a rifle as well when the right one comes along.

My M95/34 slugged at .329 which I find pretty amazing for a rifle that's nearly 100 years old. Haven't done any formal testing yet but I have some rounds converted from 7.62x54 that will hopefully be run this weekend. I'm casting the Lee .329 205gn bullets and have loaded them so far unchecked. I'll see what kinda results I get to decide whether or not to check them. Will be ordering so real deal brass as well once I place my order for other components and equipment in the next month or so.
