gas lock front sight problem

So lately I've been doing a lot of shorty mods and have been installing gas lock front sights supplied by my clients.
I am running into the following issues and am wondering how widespread this problem is.
I won't reveal manufacturer just yet, I want to see how many folks respond to this.
Upon installation of new gas lock sight, the gas plug is very difficult to install, to the point where it is binding threads and would need to be forced in.
Generally a gas plug should instal easily, without hanging up or binding.
I rechecked the 3 rifles needing glfs installed here by installing their original gas locks and plugs went in smooth as butter.

So the measuring tools came out and I have 5 customer supplied Navy style gas lock front sights that the barrel to gas plug center to center is "un-usabley" out of spec.
Anyone managing to force a gas plug past one of these risks destroying their gas plug and or cylinder. As was the case with one felllows rifle that got sent in witha seized gas plug.

Anyone have any similar experiences?

I just put one on my Poly the other night. Corlane's did the shortening. I ordered the GLFS from Marstar. It went together exceptionally well, didn't even require the shim kit that I ordered as well. No problems what-so-ever.

I found it very tight to get on. Once on I have not had any issues. It takes a rubber mallet to get the last 15degress of turn.
Mine is a 2007 model. If that matters.

I am only talking about getting the gas plug in once the gas lock sight is in place.
If your gas plug is difficult to install, and by difficult I mean it binds and is difficult to turn all the way in by hand. OR more simply the plug doesn't go in as easy as it does with standard norc gas lock.

I don't want to flame any manufacturer here so if you have any issues like those above , you might have a slightly out of spec part.
I was just curious to see if others were experiencing difficulty or if it is fairlly isolated.

MT84 your "ultimate front sight" modified gas system is on the way ;)

I've used four different sights from two manufacturers and have not had problems. I originally had a Marstar navy sight on a shorty and it worked well. Then got a Volters navy sight for another shorty. Also worked perfectly. Now I have just installed two dovetail style Volters sights and they as well work perfectly. I was impressed with their fit and finish on the navy sight enough that I tried their dovetail. I really like the sight picture of the original sight, it's just so M14ish. Hope this helps.:)

Is the Volter's dove tail gas ring front sight high enough that you don't have to trim the tail off the rear sight to get a zero??

I haven't seen one of the Volter's yet, but unless they added about 1/10" to the height of the front sight base, or use a taller front sight, my experience with SOME M14 shorties indicates that SOME M14 shorties will shoot high,
even with the rear sight all the way down.

Which is where Mr Dremel is you friend, and you have to trim about 1/8" off the bottom of the rear sight ladder.

As a follow up to my original post, the gas locks navy sights I was having issues with installing are indeed Volter's. Purchased by clients who sent in their rifles.
I have been in contact with the manufacturer and replacements are on the way. We also got out the drawings and calipers and compared findings on many norc, m1a, marstar, rooster and volters, both gas locks and gas lock sights.
Being a new m14 parts manufacturer, Volters is eager to get thierparts perfect, to fit correctly on a wide range of rifles, both stock norc and otherwise. As anyone attempting to make parts n bits for these rifles know, the chinese parts are not 100% consistant in their tolerances.
I am confident that I can recommend the Volters sights to everyone here, especially with the attitude and open communication I was able to have with the manufacturer.
I will have a sample of the dovetail sight and will test it with at least a dozen different chinese, usgi and aftermarket front sights. Feedback will be sent first to Volters, then with permission, posted here.
