Gas plug on M1 garand how to remove?

You can use a Garand combo tool or a large screwdriver or a 1/4 inch socket drive inserted into the face of the screw. Sometimes they can be tight, so the rifle and gas cyl should be supported before applying a lot of torque.

Ok got the tool & removed the gas plug ... Now how do I get the front sight off & the gas assembly as neither will budge??? Help appreciated.

First unscrew the gas cylinder lock and remove it. Then pull the gas cyl/front sight assembly forward and remove. If the gas cyl is too tight to remove by hand put a hardwood block on the rear of the bayonet lug then tap the block with a hammer.

I believe that there is a helpful sticky on this on the MILSURP forum.
