You can use a Garand combo tool or a large screwdriver or a 1/4 inch socket drive inserted into the face of the screw. Sometimes they can be tight, so the rifle and gas cyl should be supported before applying a lot of torque.
First unscrew the gas cylinder lock and remove it. Then pull the gas cyl/front sight assembly forward and remove. If the gas cyl is too tight to remove by hand put a hardwood block on the rear of the bayonet lug then tap the block with a hammer.
