Gas System Not Working and Rounds Won't Cycle.

I had a big issue today with my new M14 at the range where the rifle didn't eject the spent case and of course didn't cycle the next round. The gun was shooting amazing however, when cycled manually the next round loaded and shot properly but won't eject. I had heard that there was a way to make the M14 work in manual mode only, since it did cycle and load manually I continued to shot for the rest of the day without any other issue. After the day was done and we were packing up the guns I noticed the screw for the gas system was loose and missing the pin to hold it in place. Once I saw this I would have to think the gas system wasn't working at all. Am I right to think this, where do I get a new pin and how do I set the screw properly?

Yes, the gas can be turn off to fire grenades with special blanks. The lines be should up and down for normal cycling...marstar might have the parts you need. Simple fix.
 
go to an auto parts store with the gas screw and get a roll pin that is the correct length and diameter.problem solved instead of waiting for the parts to come in...
 
Go to Home Depot for a spare roll pin, or go to Princess Auto and by a box full of different sized rollpins.
 
All very useful suggestions if you have a roll pin to take with you in order to buy the correct size. Or...

someone could tell you that it is the same roll pin as the connector lock and that the size of the connector lock retaining pin is 5/64"X1/2"

or when in doubt....... the 5/64"X1/2" "is" the correct roll pin :cool:
you should have no troubles finding them at your favorite hardware store.

Well it's fixed sorta and it wasn't that easy to find the right size pin, I could only find a 1/16"x1/2" at home depot so I bought it. It fit snug by hand so I am using it for a temp fix, I later found a 5/64"x1" at Brafasco that I will cut down and punch in properly asap.

Even thought I am going to punch in the right size pin, will the smaller pin fitting snug and the force of the spring be enough to hold that pin in place?

Or is it just to keep the bolt in place and if so do I only need to worry if I want to change it's positions again, taking the chance it might just fall out again?

brace the back of the pin on one side and tap a finishing nail (or similar spear point fine instrument) gently into the open end of the roll pin, switch sides and do it again..... with the pin installed ...... and this should flair the undersize roll pin enough that it will work and may do so for some time ;)
