Higher fuel prices helped Petro-Canada's earnings jump in the third quarter.

The company said it made $614 million ($1.19 a share), up from $410 million (77 cents a share) a year earlier.

The Calgary-based oil and gas company (TSX:pCA) said its cash flow rose to $1.06 billion from $869 million year-over-year.

"The excellent business environment and solid operations resulted in strong earnings and cash flow this quarter," said Ron Brenneman, Petro-Canada's president and chief executive officer. "With our upstream turnarounds largely complete, full-year production is anticipated to come in on guidance."

The company said its production of crude oil, natural gas liquids and natural gas averaged 422,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day during the quarter, compared to 435,700 boe per day in the same quarter of 2004. The company said its production guidance for the full year remains at between 415,000 and 430,000 boe per day.

Petro-Canada gained 63 cents to end at $41.23 on the TSX.

P.S. YES, gas prices affect my hunting BIG TIME!!!

I had to sell my truck b/c of the gas prices (was also my daily driver back and forth into town). I now have to rely on anyone else just to get up into the bush period, it's ridiculous.

But hey, it just went under a buck here yesterday. What a deal :x

Gas prices have fallen a fair bit here in Calgary. I can get regular unleaded for about 87 cents per litre right now, and less if I look around. For what it is worth, I still have NEVER paid a dollar a litre for gas yet IN MY LIFE. Yes, it has been over a buck a litre here in Calgary, but I did not need to fill my truck at the time. I was able to wait until the price fell below a buck. Will gas prices affect my upcoming hunt? Not really. I have waited so long to get back out that I am going, come Hell or high water. :D

well lets just say we used 5 tanks of gas to get to our spot......mind you i was hauling a trailer and have a piss ass small tank......but its worth every penny :D
this was our third year to go there and with moose taken home every time :D
