Hey guys, I’m putting a 20” faxon pencil barrel in 308 on my 102. Stock barrel is bleh. I’ll need a rifle length gas tube. Is this the normal 15.125” rifle length gas tube or is it some oddball length?

Thanks!

That’s right, stock is 0.875”! My bad.

I’ll go order a tube and a block. Thanks again!

On a side note I decided FDE sucks and I hate that BCL doesn’t anodize their receivers so I stripped my upper, lower and SLR hand guard. Gonna anodize it today. Will post pics. I think it looks kinda cool as raw aluminum.

Man #### this!

I anodized my SLR handguard and it turned out pink! Ffs!

And my upper & lower turned out like the copper part of a Duracell battery.

I was going for coyote brown, but everything went down the ####ter. Too embarrassed to post pics.

Ok, here is a pic of the upper and lower. A bit blotchy finish and the dye I bought sucked. I used to anodize my own motorcycle parts 15 years ago and had way better luck than this mess. Proper colour was usually achieved within minutes. This stuff took a couple hours in dye to get this colour. Weird. 6061 usually anodizes pretty easily. Copper top upper and lower:

Next is the SLR handguard. Was originally black, I’m guessing Type 3 anodized because it took a while to strip the old oxide layer. Got it to raw aluminum, cleaned it, anodized it and left it in the dye overnight. Woke up to this pink abortion:

And here is the finished product. Copper top receivers and pink handguard. Lol. Going hunting with it this weekend. My wife loves the colour of the handguard.

How far into the receiver does the gas tube go? I’ve read that Faxon is set up for the longer Armalite AR-10 gas tube.

Shoot it yet?

I too used to dabble in the anodizing for motorcycle parts I was manufacturing. What did you use to strip the cerakote?

I installed the Faxon pencil 20" also, just ordered a generic rifle length tube and used an adjustable .750" GB I had already.

Limited testing or load development thus far but a bulk load that was 2moa before has tightened up to right around MOA with just the barrel swap. Pretty happy with the Faxon here.

Leg, in my initial rush for parts I bought both the standard AR15 rifle length and Armalite AR10. Through my research, I thought Faxon used the standard AR15 tube (I could be wrong). Due to poor accuracy I tried the AR10 tube. Both functioned fine but displayed poor accuracy.

My gas block and tube are at the post office, I’m gonna go pick them up right away and hopefully it fits. Glad to hear you’ve had good accuracy results Receipt, I’m hoping for the same! I stripped the cerakote by blasting with plain old iodized table salt. It took a long time as it’s not very aggressive. Saw a guy on YouTube who used it to remove cerakote without doing anything to the anodized layer underneath. Took a long time though, around 45 minutes for each receiver half.

Dave- you had poor accuracy from the faxon barrel?

Leg- I’ll probably get it cerakoted or if I feel industrious I’ll strip it down to raw aluminum again, polish it to high gloss and anodize it and dye it something bizarre. Red? Blue? Orange? Gold? Yellow?

Got it together. I hope it functions. Seems like the gas tube doesn’t come into the upper as far as the original did. I used a standard AR-15 rifle length tube.
