gas tube

HELP!!! my gas tube wont come off my sks, and yes the lever is in the right position, i shoved a scewdriver underneath the tube and it will come up just a bit and then stop. I shined a flashlight onto and it looks like the gas piston has popped forward locking the tube onto rifle. should i just get a zip grinder and cut it off and get a new one? or is there a way i can make the rod push back and lift tube off

Its probably not the rod or gas piston. Is this a new Chinese SKS? Some of them are very tight and need to be filed/shaved a bit.

If you remove the bolt, you can look at the tube/spring just under the rear sight. It should be flush, if not, push it back and the gas piston will go back to the proper spot. If that doesn't correct the problem, then you have to get a flat blade screwdriver under the gas tube and carefully wiggle it off. Once off, give it a few passes with sandpaper and round the edges a bit only on the rear of the gas tube ( not the front).

Put a few rounds down the pipe if it is all back together,that should center everything up!

Is the op rod/gas piston extension thing sticking out under the sight block? If so, poke it back in.

hey juster i gave it a couple taps with(op rod gas piston thing) a hammer and the gas tube popped right off...maybe i shouldnt have lost my temper earlier and screwed up my gas tube wood with a chisel and hammer. thanks for your help
