$1.20/lt for gas  Can you believe this ####? I usually take off for a week in the mountains with my 19' Jetboat, but not this year I guess :( Instead, I loaded the quad in our '94 Z71 4X4 and went out for a few hours last Sunday afternoon checking some areas for an up & coming moose hunt. I only had to use 4WD for a couple bad spots. When I got home I topped up the fuel tank and it set me back $65  I wasn't even over an hour from home  So I left the pickup/quad at home the next day and took our new (to us) Jeep Wrangler out to a different area to check for elk. This is about an hour out of town. So again I top up the tank upon returning home. I used 4WD sparingly in the Jeep and it still cost $53  I spoke to my nephew in Williams Lake and with the high gas prices, he can't afford to come up hunting this fall :( Hell, our '03 Hemi 4X4 quadcab hasn't turned a wheel for over two weeks now. Anyone else feeling the crunch and associated pain of cutting back on hunts due to the high price of gas?...KF

Our gas prices have really dropped, I paid a 103.9 which is still way over priced but it was a 1.20 for while there. I have given up all bird hunting in order to save money to cover my deer hunts.

The price in Calgary just dropped below $1.00 again (thank god!)... $.989 or so at most places this morning. I'm not sure if the price will drop much lower any time soon though

was 123.9 in Nelson a week ago, yesterday it was 110.9. Haven't checked today to see what it is. My truck gets an average of 9 mpg so it really sucks for me. Good thing I have an ATV. Its not great on fuel but at least its around 20 mpg.

I still can't figure out how gas can be cheaper in Ontario than in Alberta, it must be an eastern liberal conspiracy. Down to 103.4 here from 114.9 the other day.

Give it a little bit and if gas evens out at around 90 cents that would be great.

When prices went from .39 to .50 cents I was laughing at people lining up for .45 gas i saw that in langley bc, about 5 or 6 years ago, can't remember.

I always thought if regular gas was .75 ALWAYS i would be happy

I guess a buck a liter will seem like a deal soon.

Hope natural gas (for heating, etc.) does not go through the roof too.

I drove from Guelph to my farm near Sudbury on Friday, returned yesterday evening (around 5hrs each way). I saw gas prices from 99.9 to 1.20 something. I had a mostly full tank when I left, filled up in Thornton (just south of Barrie) on the return trip, cost me $110 before my 3 cent per liter discount for buying over 100 liters of DIESEL FUEL. If I had a full tank when I left, I could have made the round trip without filling up. This was all highway driving, but the truck is a crew cab dually with 4.10 gears.

Well then, time to reconsider your vehicles. Do you really need two full-sized, 5000lb+ 4x4 trucks AND a Jeep? If you do, then there's nothing to complain about - that's the cost of doing what you want to do. If you have to transport a 4 man work crew while towing a trailer of heavy equipment every day, you've got the right vehicle. If you don't, then it's time to rethink what you drive and why. Can you do the same thing with a car and a trailer for the quad? Lots of cars (and some mini-vans) have 4wd. There are smaller SUVs and trucks. Hell, I've taken my 2wd station wagon with snow tires down snowmobile trails in early winter without any problem.

Consider how much gas money you'll save if you buy a used small car for most of your driving, rather than a fullsized truck. Say 35 mpg compared to 16.

Don't count on cheap gas. Yes, even a buck a litre is cheap for what it does. This is just going to force people to adapt.
