I'm not a lever gun fan at all, but I like a few of them. The 1895, the Mdl71, and I've ben a fan of the 1894 "trapper" model since a buddy of mine showed up at my house one day with one in 44 Magnum, and we spent a few hours shooting stuff in my back yard.:)

Yesterday I bought one form a CGN member, along with a bunch of loaded ammo and bullets. :)

I stopped at the range on the way home to take it for a test drive! Wow, just as much fun as I remembered!

No surprise that I think I need to change the sights out though...I did fine on white paper targets but couldn't even see the front blade when on darker objects. I've never really liked the traditional "buckhorn" sights on many lever rifles, though...

Here it is, next to my 24" barrel 300WSM:

I got mine quite a while ago, but I do believe they still ship to Canada. Here's another pic of a dueling duo of .45's. Probably loaded a little hotter than need be :). Fun little guns!

Everyone should have at least one lever in thier collection, makes you feel like a goddamn cowboy just carrying it around!:D

I got a little .30-30 win 94 trapper, and I love it.

With a small brush I paint all of my front sights even my XS front blades hot pink other than fiber optic green I find it to be the best colour to contrast against all background colours.

Lever actions are fun. I picked up a Marlin 1894C last year and am enjoying it. I've got a Leupold 1x-4x scope on mine but am considering swapping to the XS sight system.

I usually don't mind white. If I change the colour, I'll use orange or red, since I am not ghey.:p

Gatehouse,

If you are looking for stout heavy lead bullet loads there is a good article at Leverguns.com written by Paco Kelly. I worked up a few loads with 300gr Lee RNFP GC's for both my '94 and 92 with H110 and got some pretty impressive results.

At least I don't wear pink ;)

Orange and red totally suck for fast target acquisition when you are out dealing with fall colours and white sucks when there is snow.

Yep been there done that...

:D

Dammit! I keep watching for a pistol caliber Marlin and they keep going before I get a chance to look at them!
Oh well, I can always load the 30-30 a little lighter I guess.

Hey, if you really, really like pink on your rifles, you dont have to make excuses:evil:

I doubt this rifle will get used much in the fall, anyway.:)

I usually put a drop of high gloss white enamel paint right on the front bead with a toothpick with the barrel pointing straight down, I find I can see this in low light better than any other colour.

For the back sight I normally carry a pack of matches and take 2 or 3 out together and stike them then hold them under the back sight only when the matchs are really smoking (just before the flame settles down) while holding the gun with the barrel straight up. I find this puts a fine layer of soot the back sight which makes it completely flat black with no reflections.

This combination seems to work really well and even in low light situations you can still get the front sight right down in back sight where it belongs.

Liquid paper isn't as good as the white enamel paint but I usually carry a little bottle of it just in case the front sight gets a bad rub on something and knocks the paint off, only takes a second to touch it up in the field.

Hope you enjoy your new purchase.
