Hi, I have some access to a live streaming environment with my new job and have received permission to have my own little streaming channel for live events, etc. I was just wondering if people would be interested in having the M14 clinics streamed live over the internet for those that can't show up. I went to one of the first clinics out there and Hungry is great at putting information out there in a very usable form whether beginner or expert. The streaming software we use also has the ability to record digitally whats being streamed for later playback. The problem is I can't make it unfortunately all over the country to film these events unless they are near Toronto. So basically I would need a volunteer to film and control the video camera and laptop necesary. Also you need a semi-decent internet connection (high speed) to stream. However if you just wanted to record and save the movie I could have it available on a website for later playback. Of course this would be at no charge to anyone to either view or even download it and exchange it.

So bottom line, I have all the backend architecture necessary to do this however we need a few frontend items that maybe people already have (ie video cameras) that people going to the clinics maybe able to utilize for everyone that can't make it. In effect the front end stuff we need is:

1. video camera with either S-video or RCA out with audio, can be cheap as the live streaming doesn't need to be high definition

2. Osprey USB or Dazzle USB video input card doesn't have to be expensive a cheap dazzle USB card is like 50$.

3. Laptop. Can be crummy, the software we use is very light on the CPU so it can be a cheapo special or used whatever. Maybe a gig free disk space which should be good for 8 hours or recording.

4. For live streaming, a semi-good internet connection. Any sort of civilian high speed should work even as low as 500Kbit up is more than enough to get zero hiccups and good picture quality with the software we use.

This month unfortunately I have a bunch of expenses otherwise I'd just buy the crap myself and ship it to hungry and have volunteers film it. There really is not much to it, all you need to have is enough RCA or S-video cable slack to film all the little workshops going on and hit "record". I just wanted to guage interest for those that already own some of these items as I can provide all the backend including the website as well as technical support to see that this goes through. The software itself is so small you can email it as an attachment or put it on a floppy. I have my own ftp site so its not a big deal to put the software and movies up there for downloading. So I'm jus throwing it out there to see if people would be interested in watching the clinics as they happen. Or alternatively have them encoded for later playback over the internet. Any interest?

Ok, I've already set up a streaming channel. I'm going to post a test just to see if it works in about 1 hour. If you guys don't mind hitting the link I'd appreciate it. It won't be anything fancy just a baseball game or whatever. For those that are interested I work at www.sportslive.ca which deals with ameteur and college/university sports in Ontario(soon to be Canada wide) it's free to sign up and watch.

Ok guys here is a test using mms which should stream on windows np and linux using Mplayer and MAC using windows componants for MAC, all of which is a free download:

You should see our logo. I want to do this for free at least on the back end.

Alright well I couldn't get this stuff together and missed the last clinic but thats ok the channel works and it will give me time to gather up some of the stuff we need anyway. I'll look out for the next clinic and find someone who is going and provide the equipment. Cheers.

I like the idea of streaming clinics, but for me, part of the fun is meeting and interacting with fellow CGN-ers and stuff... But I'll probably watch the stream :)
